We arrived on a frosty morning to find the river low and clear. Prospects looked tricky, but the fish were still willing to feed. We had 19 barbel to 8lb 10oz, with fish averaging in the 5-6lb range. We also had 4 chub to 3lb 9oz. Most fish came to hair rigged pellet in conjunction with open end feeder tactics. However, don't ignore maggot as the barbel switched on to it when the pellet approach went quiet. A stunning river and a beautiful location. Good directions, but I'd suggest travelling as light as possible to get the most from the venue.

A slick booking system from the WUF made the whole experience very pleasurable - thanks very much WUF. We will definitely be back next year.

A disappointing day, only two small chub a few dace and one grayling, despite the river looking in beautiful condition. Never mind there is always the next time! Thank you Wye and Usk Foundation

River low and clear plus a frost, not great conditions for my first visit to this stunning venue. Fished smaller hooks and baits to coax 8 barbel to 7lb 4oz on feeder tactics and 5 chub to 5lb 2oz on stick float and caster. The only noise to be heard all day were pheasants and swans, can't wait to go back in better conditions. Thank you Wye and Usk.

One of the best days fishing I've ever had, despite only 4 grayling between us. Largest around 11". 3 taken on nymph and one on the dry about midday. A few fish started to rise when the sun got on the water and a few olives started to appear. A salmon leapt in one of the pools, and a few out of season trout were caught. Easy parking and didn't see a soul all morning. Privilege to be out there.

Interesting piece of river - mouthwatering in fact. A few fish rose to dries, but most were taken on the nymph. 8 fish in total to 13". Stunning close to the day with the largest fish taken in the last pool at sunset. Bit of a walk from the car, but worth every step. Thanks WUF.

What a difference a day makes! A cold northerly and heavy showers... but it is approaching the end of October after all, and we've had a lovely few weeks so we mustn't grumble! Between us we had over 50 grayling and one or two trout with the same flies as yesterday at Abernant doing the job. Few flies but still small size 18-20 olives around off and on from mid-morning, in spite of the wind and showers. Some, albeit very few, fish rising. But they still came after emergers so are still looking up - let's hope they do so for a bit longer into November before we need to plumb the depths.

Arrived at 7.15am to find the river clear and looking perfect. The weather was nice and sunny, a beautiful autumn morning. We settled into a peg where the Vanstone Pool empties. After an hour I had missed a couple of knocks, lost 2 chub to an unseen snag and caught a 12lb pike on an old plug I found in the bottom of my box after it insisted on trying to eat my feeder every time I reeled it in.

Three hours later not sign of a fish so a move was on the cards. We moved to a new area and immediately resulted in a few fish - I had 3 barbel and a chub in the first few casts and again got pestered by pike trying to eat my feeder. Out went the plug and I had a 16lb pike first cast, followed by another double next cast before going back to my barbel fishing.

We ended the day with 8 barbel between 5 and 7lb, 5 pike to 16lb, 2 chub 3 to 4lb and a suprise carp I had last cast (12lb common) so a good day was had by both of us. Middle Hill Court has to be the best looking beat on the Wye at this time of the year.

Fished Holme Lacy 3, 4 rods total, 6 barbel and 5 chub.
Weather had turned cold but the river looked good, still enjoyable. Thanks to Colin the ghillie on Holme Lacy, very helpful man. As the man said (we will be back). Thanks to the helpful staff for sorting out our bookings.

Fisrt time on the wonderful River Wye. Fished just below the bridge mid river using pellet on feeder rig. Managed 12 barbel to 9lb 12oz and 8 chub to 5lb 8oz in 5 hours! Would have stayed longer but it poured with rain making the bank very dangerous. Very impressed with the whole experence. Thank you very much.
