Low water - in need of rain. Good sport with small fish/trout. 2 x small brown trout caught.

4 x grayling 8-15 inches, various small trout and parr. It may seem a bit churlish of me because it's always nice to catch a few grayling, but I was really a bit disappointed with this session, knowing how very well Abernant can fish in September. I have checked the recent returns and see a gentleman from Kew had it really on song a couple of days ago when the level was dropping back. I only wish it had been me! It also fished surprisingly well in August. This morning I was hoping for surface action, but there were very few rises to dries, spiders weren't particularly attractive, and in fact the grayling were generally dour. Perhaps they don't like the increase in temperature. Never mind, try another day.

Very disappointing, with what seamed a great day to get out there, fish all over the place, and I mean lots of them, rising to PW's and stoneflies, caught two WBT 1@ 7" 1@ 9" in the first 150yds. The fish fell to ducks dun and my 7' rod, I don't have a 4' or I would have used it. The river is nigh impossible to fish, what with tree debris in and under the water, trees across the water, barbed wire to watch out for, fences across the river etc. etc. the bolder bottom to this river means that Nymphing is hopeless, snagging continuously. A very frustrating 5hrs, but hey beats going to work. so if you are thinking about this beat I have fished better, and I'm used to small stream fishing.

Two Grayling at 9 & 10" was something of a disappointment on what looked like a perfect day. Nothing was rising but there were prolific shoals promising great sport when they're next in the mood. Tried everything from dries (battered by what I guess was Grayling fry?), nymphs and spiders (success with Black & Peacock and a Black Green Caddis). Fished round the bottom weir with no action, skipped the lower wooded section which looked very difficult, the open middle section is obviously easy to fish except for the marauding tiddlers. The controversial wooded stretch above the weir can be fished but isn't a stroll and I failed to catch here. On the parking front I'm not sure what the problem has been but I followed WUF instructions to the farmyard and was directed to a spot by the barn, it's then a 5-10 min walk to the middle of the beat. Finally I found a pair glasses in the water - gold rimmed with tortoise shell arms, if the owner is reading I'm sure WUF can put us in touch.

Weather perfect, loads of water, some fish rising but....just two 8in trout caught plus a small perch. A local angler on the next beat suggested coming back next May. We'll see!

No fish but possibly a take. A very enjoyable days fishing on a great beat for fly fishing. Made far more enjoyable for by being greeted, shown around and pointed to the right spots. I'll look forward to fishing here again!

Lovely day with fish rising on arrival around 11am and continued but slowed, through the day. 4 grayling and 1 small wild brown between the two rods - none taken. Biggest was grayling of around 1lb. Fish taken on dry fly, spider and gold-head nymph patterns in fast and slow water.

2 of us fished pellet feeders on a day that was unseasonably sunny and hot and a river that was low and clear, so less than ideal conditions.

Before stopping for lunch at 12 noon, it was relatively slow with just a single barbel gracing the net. We returned refreshed at 3.30 pm and the action became fast and furious, bringing our combined catch up to 19 barbel, including a 10.03 and five 9s. We also had chub to just over 5lb.

What a superb stretch of river this is and what a high average weight for Wye barbel. We can't wait to re-visit.

Another enjoyable day on the Wye, 4 barbel and 4 chub landed and a few lost. Also, I would like to thank Adam the baliff(?) for recovering my landing net which I left behind in the car park. Will be back to the river soon!

First time on this stretch, what a pleasure it was to fish. Easy access & well looked after. 2 Rods caught 11 Barbel & 6 Chub. Mainly on Pellets & Paste. Barbel ran to almost 9lb. Will return to this stretch.
