Weather was wet for most of the day. Fished luncheon meat at the far end of the beat for most of the afternoon without success. Ended up with 3 chub to 4 1/2lb on pellet after changing tact and moving. Lovely beat with good access to the water and plenty of swims to explore!

RS and I decided to try Ty Newydd again after my day there on Monday, but what a difference a few days makes! We fished from midday until we were rained off at about 7pm. The water seemed colder than on Monday but I hadn't taken any temperatures. Pretty windy for a fair bit of the time with a couple of afternoon showers between which very few flies were coming off and, unsurprisingly, hardly a rise was seen. Unlike on Monday, the fish just weren't looking up and we only managed to catch 14 fish between us: 6 trout to 12", and 8 grayling to 12" with most of 8-10". Fish taken on HE emerger, foam beetle, foam ant and on a brown Super Pupa. Nothing on NZ style nymph. Tough!

Having read DC and RS feedback for the same day its comforting for us (and perhaps them!) to know that we were not the only ones that struggled. Given we were on the next beat down hardly surprising that we had the same cold squally weather and that the fish were not very interested. Total was 5 wbt best 14" and only the 1 10" grayling to our two rods - all the trout came between 5 and 6 pm when there was a small hatch of olives and the fish woke up. The trout were all on the skinny side - has feeding been poor this summer? In pleading mitigation this was my first outing since coronary and I was fishing gently!

Having fished Holme Lacy the day before we know that finding the fish in the very low clear river would be the key to catching, and so it proved as in the first 4 hours we fished most of the pegs on the top half of the beat for 1 chub each, but in the afternoon my ( Ghille )
Neil found the fish in the bottom meadow and caught 10 barbel ,all 6-8lb fish while I caught 3 barbel and 5 chub.
All the fish again caught on Halibut pellet.
Once again a great days fishing but I feel that with a small amount of work more pegs could be made available in the wooded areas, which would make the beat even better. Many thanks W.U.F
