Early start after the barbel. 6 by lunch time, Don witnessed the largest about 8 or 9lb. Some nice chub too.
Rolling meat worked well as well as pellets. After the lunch time deluge of Kayaks and Canoes no more action for the rest of the day. Perhaps finer gear and maggots would have worked better as its very low and clear. Would have been difficult to get the fish out though.
Thanks to Don.
WUF NOTE: No maggots or non aquatic pupae between 16 June and 14 September (EAW byelaw).

A very frustrating day on a normally very productive beat. 6 barbel between the 3 of us all from the Vanstone pool. WE had at least 5 salmon in the pool, including an enormous orange coloured one which i guess had been in the river some time. We speculated the prescence on the salmon may have contributed to the lack of barbel, as conditions were perfect.
There are not many swims on this beat, and most are centered on the Vanstone pool, so ok if the beat is booked by a party of anglers, but less so otherwise.

Another great days fishing on a cracking beat. Arrived midday and after an interesting scout around the top of the beat (very large cows and even larger bulls) I found a very fishy area and caught 12 barbel most over 7lbs to just under 9lbs and 1 good chub 4lb 11oz. Trip back to orchard again interesting (bulls) I think their name suits them very well!!! In truth they didnt seem bothered by me at all thanks again Wye & Usk.

JT fished the first swim in the woods and waded out and cast up stream to the tree down from boys rock taking 15 or so barbel up to 10lb 6oz. KT started in the second swim and took one barbel in the first hour then fished with his dad. All fish fell to small pellets. I started in the last swim in the woods feed 4 pints of hemp and corn then went for a walk for an hour. Started to fish and took two chub about 4lb one on corn and one on a small boilie in the first half hour then that was that. Fed every swim in the woods and never had another bite all day. Warning the photos of this beat are of boys rock and the shallows above if there were photos of the rest of the beat you probably wouldn't go there barbel fishing.

Plenty of small trout and parr on the Silver Stoat, but alas no Salmon. Water falling, was down to 8" on the gauge, and too hot. Still a good day out of the office.

A lovely setting, but a very warm day and no significant hatch resulted in a slow day. 7 fish between us, nothing of note. We did however see 3 large trout from the top of the bank.
