What a wonderful length. Quite a long stretch but you can drive along and park at the river side in good conditions. Some scary looking bulls but didn't cause a problem. Weather was good and caught steadily through the day.
Finished with 10 barbel, most around the 5lb mark but did have a 7 5 and a 9 1.
The swims with some flow seemed to produce fish. I was expecting more canoe traffic and the ones I saw were very well meaning. Love to come back.

Fishing Saturday the 25th we found the river up and colored but settled in to swims that have produced for us in previous seasons. The fishing proved to be quite challenging almost as much as some of the canoe parties that passed by. Making subtle changes to location and presentation did pay off and the barbel were begrudgingly coming to our nets. Finishing Saturday with around a dozen barbel, a chub and some eels for good measure between two rods. Returning on Sunday 26th our concern was on the forecast for bright sunshine and temperatures close to 30 but this was before we saw that the river had come up over night by a good 3ft and was transporting large trees out to sea! My previous swim was now in the river and hopes of fish were slim. We stuck it out and some how did manage to land the odd barbel, the biggest just shy of 9lb, at times in mad fishing conditions.

20 barbel biggest 9lbs 1 0z. 7 chub average 3-4 lbs. All caught on pellet. Excellent fishery a little concerned about a bull in every meadow!! however this did not prevent us from fishing.Access was excellent but orchard stretch of river was more or less inaccessible for fishing. Thank you Wye and Usk Foundation for an excllent days sport in very difficult river conditions- low and clear.

Just for the Rectory records (This fish in June):
I finally managed to break my duck at the Rectory with a good solid take in the Rock pool-- followed by instant stripping of line to the backing--
then a display of cartwheels, tail walking and slicing the water. After recovering line, more antics and then finally a hen fish of about 12lbs hooked firmly in the mouth with a Stoats tail.
A pleasure to see her swim away.
Height 1'9", colour and rising-- time 12.00 am.
Usk Grub, sink tip.

Single Brown Trout caught - 35cm long & just under a pound in weight ( 15 1/2 oz). Caught in bay at south end (SO 089177) on damsel nymph.
Sadly the fish had quite a few lice on it, although its general condition otherwise seemed good.
I'd tried dry fly from bridge pillars up to the bay with no luck. Very few fish seen rising - almost all before 0900, and around the bridge pillar area.
Thanks & best regards.
