Just thought you would like to know tonight I managed a fresh silver fish (no sea lice) est 16lb.
Took it on my 10ft no 8 trout rod using a sink tip, 12lb floro carbon leader, double Usk grub from Sweets.
Fish fought hard for about 20 minutes jumping 3ft in the air several times. Incredible battle.
Pleased to say it was in good condition when returned. Caught on Gwent Angling Society's water.

Arrived at the river for what was to be the last of the Mayfly days, had the Mayfly not been and gone earlier than usual this year, to what I hoped was better conditions. Especially as I was guiding a chap that had not fished since childhood.
When we arrived at the river the persistent wind was gone!! Phhhew!! And I saw, for the first time in a week, a Mayfly.
It is amazing how even after what seems like an improvement of conditions the fishing can still be so tough. We started off with some casting then moved on to dry fly fishing. Missing quite a few fish, eventually towards then end of the afternoon it all fell into place and we found a real cracker of a fish and low and behold it was feeding on emerging Mayflies. A quick change of flies to a suitably coloured Klink, a well aimed cast, a big splashy rise as the fish took the offering with gusto and it was a well deserved fish on!! After what seemed like a long fight we brought a fantastic 18 incher to the net. Well Done!!

Heavy rain and very high coloured water made fishing difficult, caught one brownie of about 1/2 a pound. Very good service from the Foundation.

A difficult days fishing. Wind and drizzling rain making it only worse. Saw very little surface activity and trundling nymphs, (weighted and unweighted) along likely looking runs produced nothing, often to some surprise.

Conditions looked possible so I went in hope rather than expectation. A 5lb cock fish on the fly was a surprise but a pleasing reward for optimism.
Add to that; a couple of shad which I thought were Salmon takes, (I hadn't realised Shad ran so far up the river),a mid afternoon pair of decent trout and two OOS Grayling on nymphs. All made a fascinating day of 4 species.

1st rod - 3 small brown trout and 1 grayling.
2nd rod - 1 x 1 3/4lb brown trout and a 2 1/2/lbs trout - stunning fish. All returned.
Successful flies were small olive emrgers, olive pheasant tail (shuttlecock), and tungsten beaded GRHE.
Possibly one of my favourite stretches of water.
