Yesterday on Cefn R.F., with a downstream wind & showers, we struggled. Mark spotted some large trout & tried for them with a fine leader & small nymph, but they wouldn't take. I fished dry & caught a 10" trout. We left at 6p.m., tired & with aching shoulders.

No salmon but did have one really good pull from one, unfortunately not hooked and he wouldn't bite again. Saw him jump twice at dusk as I packed up, looked like a grilse of 4-5lbs. Had one small brownie on the fly. Saw a few other salmon through the day so they're obviously still around! Thanks for a nice days fishing - lovely beat, will have to try again sometime!

A bit concerned to see the temperature drop to -1C as I drove through Hundred House to get an early start.
Fish didn't mind as I caught a beautifully conditioned hen fish 13-15 lb (by length) which certainly lived up to its' name of "Salmo the leaper". Add the superb surroundings and Kingfisher and... Wow.
Thanks to WUF now getting repetitive !
This is part 2 of my return of Saturday 18th as I was stupid enough not to record the fact - of course I did return my Salmon and incurred the frozen fingers arising from making sure it recovered properly.

Interesting beat with what seemed a good water level, nice cloudy conditions and all appeared perfect for a decent afternoon evening session after being held up on the M5 for a few hours! A few trout took hold but no salmon and rather disapointingly none seen. A little unsure of the Bull in the lower field on Left bank so did not attempt to fish the lower end of the beat and time/ darkness would not allow us to walk up and down the other side - but hope to return and try the lower end. Usual efficient booking service, keep up the good work and many thanks.

Saturday on the Irfon was better - less wind. We started on the long stretch below the island, close to the hotel & hardly progressed much beyond the Rocks. Dry fly worked well, which suited me. We caught 20 grayling to 2lbs. & 8 trout to 13". 2 salmon parr came to my fly. There are some mink about.

Absolutely loads of trout up to 10 inches, all caught on green or black Klink's fished upstream, better fish caught in the faster water. Felt I could have caught more on the upper half on nymphs but enjoy the dry better. Good sized, fin perfect fish a plenty on the lower half of the beat. Great day, will be back!

Another great day booked through the Foundation, 3 trout rods and 1 salmon.
My first day back on the Wye in a couple of years was rewarded with 8 grayling ranging from 1/2 pound to a pound and a 1/2 pound brown trout taken on selection of nymphs, all returned.
Paul also had a good day with grayling the best of his 5 was about a pound and half, also 5 brown trout to around a pound as well.
Sam's first time out was successful with a nice grayling.
Paul saw one Salmon leap but unfortunately Matt didn't have any luck.
