This is a lovely stretch of river - but despite reports of marvellous trout and graying catches I have managed 1 10" brown trout in three visits. Latest visit I saw plenty of kingfishers and fly catchers but only 3 rises and no takes. I was using Adams Irresistible with a small pink beaded nymph NZ style at 15". If anyone is prepared to let me into the secret of success on this stretch then my email is jeremy_mantle@hotmail.com. Frustrated but not giving up!

Greeted with very low water conditions, and relatively bright skies. Fishing proved very difficult with only 3 barbel and 10 chub being caught.
Hopefully fishing will improve when there is a decent amount of water in the river. Nice to see that there are a few more swims marked, but would be better if flat fishing platforms could be introduced.

Fished for a couple of hours early afternoon. Mainly cloudy with some drizzle. Water level really too low at 6" to be ideal - pools more like a series of interconnected ponds, containing very spooky trout! Some rises. Had six trout, the best 11", all to a hare's ear emerger and mainly in the faster water at the heads of each pool. We desperatly need rain to clean these rivers out and get the levels up. The Escley Brook is worse than the Honddu and is currently pretty turbid and, with minimal flow, the slabs and rocks are now well covered with silt and algae. Ugh! Anyone know an effective rain dance?

Managed to get a full day at it, lovely place but a bit of traffic noise with the busy road quite close. Hardly saw a fish all day and didn't catch one either. Mainly a river fisher so probably got it all wrong on the day, hey ho still enjoyed it though, will have to try harder I guess.

Mainly cloudy; River Irfon very low (Wye 5"); very little fly all day. Didn't see a grayling rise all day; most rises appeared to be very small trout. Caught thirteen trout - most were 9-10 inches, but also a couple of 12 and a couple of 13 inch fish. Surprisingly for Cefnllysgwynne, I only caught two grayling - 12 and 14 inches. All fish bar one caught on a hare's ear emerger. The other on a small PW nymph fished Kiwi style.

WOW best days fishing ever. Where do I start. Started fishing 7.30am caught chub steadily all day upto 6lb, me and my mate must of had 40 good sized fish and plenty of dace and smaller chub. Decided to move downstream about 7pm and thats when the fun really started, fished till 9.30pm. In this 2 1/2 hour spell I had 10 barbel over 5lb upto 7lb and my mate had 13 barbel of the same weight. I have never seen such a feeding frenzy like it they were leaping out of the water taking on the drop. Halibut pellets caught them all. Thanks WUF

7 fish in total...all brown trout...the largest of about 1 and half pounds, the others all about 1lb. 2 caught on klinkhammer dry flies and 5 on nymphs. Foundation was/is as efficient as ever...stayed at the Dragon at Crickhowell and can highly recommend it. Thank you for all your help. All fish returned to the water.
