Very bright conditions with low water levals, managed to catch 2 nice browns about 14 ins far end of beat under trees on cdc loopwing emerger and one on nymph under an indicator in the Church Pool in fast water. What has hapened to the rain in Wales? Last year washed off twice this is a nice beat and because of some stocking you don't have to be Oliver Edwards to catch but you do need the right conditions.

Beat:Cammarch - lower
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
4 x trout around 6 inches. I fished the lower part below Beulah, where the river meanders around through yellow flag marshes. A very pretty walk and a new beat to me but, like the rather similar Ithon at Severn Arms last year, I struggled with it. Large sections of this very clear gravel bottomed stream seemed quite barren. It's very open, stock have access to most of it, and there doesn't seem to be much cover to protect trout from predators. On the other hand, maybe I should have experimented more with nymphs in the deeper holes instead of dry fly prospecting most of the day? The stream has produced a 2 pounder in the past and some of the holes look like grayling territory. As it was, I managed just a small trout here and here and enjoyed a lovely piece of countryside. I will try the upper section next time.

Beat:Glanusk Estate Fishery

My one previous visit to Glanusk was two years ago and turned out to be an official wash-off; I fished anyway since I had no opportunity to return in the near future, down & across with large nymphs through water the consistency of volcanic lava - I caught nothing. What a difference this time. A hot, sunny day but there are plenty of shady spots and hidey-holes for the fish at Glanusk and I had five beautiful trout of around a pound each, lost one and missed the take on a couple more. The new ghillie was most helpful with advice and the successful flies were a green nymph and a small dry sedge pattern. This was a great day for me and I took one of the fish home for my supper: my first trout from the Usk.

My first time exploring this beat, as the description says "real mountain stream fishing".
I spent a full day on this beat which is what is required to cover it all, it is an adventure from start to finish and full of wild brown trout but they will only give themselves up to the stealthiest of anglers (lots of fishing on knees!).
If you intend to fish the whole length then I would suggest you allow plenty of time for the walk back to the car as the terrain is hard going.
Small stream fishing at its most wildest...great stuff.
