I did not catch any fish on either day but this was the fault of the very low river conditions and bright sun not for lack of fish. Cilwych is a difficult beat to fish for Trout with fly in its middle and upper section. The lower section is best for Trout with easy wading. Dan-y-Warren is a nice beat for a couple of hours fishing. I would have caught some fish in slightly better fishing conditions.

Blanked and not a sniff all day. Fly fishing nymph dry also tossing a few smaller streamers. Much too warm, bright and low.

9 trout landed, twice as many again missed. These fish are lightning fast takers! 3 to wet flies in the morning and 6 to drys in the afternoon.

River very low and clear, lot's of fish showing. I had 3 barbel & 9 chub, biggest barbel 7lb. My uncle Brian had 7 barbel & 3 chub, biggest barbel 9lb 2oz weighed, which was the last fish of the day. Hallibut pellets and meat. Also 2 of the barbel caught had old barbed hook's in their mouths...be fair to the fish use barbless hooks as it is the rules stated by the Wye and Usk Foundation. All in all a great day's fishing. Saw a busy king fisher throughout the day and a fox spotted by the car park. Thank's again wyeausk for a great day.

9 Grayling up to 10 inches. All fish caught on size 16 'F' fly. Had a couple of bigger fish on for a while with upstream nymphs. Top end of the beat has got a bit overgrown and access to the river may get tricky when water levels rise but at present it is low enough to wade most of it. Fished here before in November when more fish were showing with much higher water levels, however I would be surprised if anybody found this beat disappointing as it is a lovely place with a good variety of water and a good number of fish.

Needless to say that as usual booking through the foundation was efficient and pleasant.

Another superb days fishing on this great beat. The weather was warm and sunny, the river level low. Catch returns as follows:
I.M. 2 x Trout up to 15", 1 x Grayling 10".
T.H. 4 x Trout up to 18", 3 x Grayling up to 19".
All fish caught on dry fly, and returned in good condition.

We took 3 excellent trout, 2 on grhe & 1 on a pheasant tail (all gold heads), all fished upstream as a New Zeland team under small dries. The Glan Usk estate is the best trout river I have fished in my 28 years of fly fishing!

Great day for sunbathers, canoeists and druid sun-worshippers. Managed to winkle out a PB chub - (no idea what it weighed left scales at home - but is the biggest Ive ever caught (5-6 lbs?)) right at the death on legered luncheon meat - fought like crazy - thought it was a barbel until I saw it. Lovely stretch of water - very enjoyable as always. Also managed 2 minnows on float-fished maggot - both returned with care.

Blanked. Fly fishing for pike and also tossing a few smaller
streamers for whatever. One small jack tail nip. Much too warm, bright
and low.

My first visit, only fished for 2 hours to check the water out for future visits, but pleased to have caught one half pound brown trout on a dry fly, the fish was returned safely.

Beautiful stretch of water, and only takes an hour and twenty from Stratford, so I look forward to fishing it again when I have more time to explore it more.
