Very hard to fish these banks. Needs a lot of work for access, very dangerous. Chub fishing is prolific but the barbel have disappeared

Caught one barbel 7-8 lbs and one eel both on meat.
Plagued by eels on meat so tried boilie and pellets later with no success. Fished the wooded area upstream of the car park and I could see some good work had been done. However after packing up I ventured downstream and walked as far as the hedge in the field. Very surprised that there were only around 3 swims that were fishable.

Lovely day on a beautiful fishery. Some large chub caught nearly every cast in the morning, however had a sleep break around the afternoon and upon returning at 1700 couldn’t get even a feeder knock. Walked whole length of fishery to find a barbel but again was outwitted.

The beat is VERY overgrown and access is really tricky. Im 74 and found myself sliding down to the water on my bum and then having to crawl back up the bank afterwards. The path along the bank has been ploughed up and planted so I had to push through head-high rape to reach the top pool. I never got there. Once in the water (there is no possibility to bank fish) the wading was was not difficult but a lot of the beat is inaccessible due to deep pools and vertical banks. It's jungle fishing. I fished for eight hours, using nymphs at first as nothing was showing on the surface. In the afternoon a few mayflies were hatching and I started getting takes on dry flies. I only landed one but was very pleased with myself.

First time on this beat and a frustrating but informative day which has reset me for summer Wye fishing. Bad start on the Croys up the top snagging up more times than not. Moved to the very bottom which looks beautiful with loads tree far bank cover over a deeper glide but tricky to fish with fast flow through the middle which makes wading essential with the best approach being heavy floats or bouncing baits through, or some gear much heavier than I brought to hold across. One lost chub down there so a move right up the top to fish the slower water which produced one chub on GB feeder and meat mid river, nothing across on hemp feeder.
JC who I met there caught well on light bomb and single meat baits (separate report), so a different approach is cooking for my return.
