Perfect river conditions. Lovely long beat with varied water.c Black Frenchie, s24 purple perdigon and rainbow warrior doing the business. Most brownies about a pound but one nearer 3lb. Beautiful condition fish. Just a shame with so much fly life - mayfly, midges & caddis no fish consistently rising.

Didn’t start fishing until 5pm. Hard going. Plenty of fish showing later on but they weren’t interested in most of our offerings. Few takes and lost one on small pheasant tail nymph . First time here but nice stretch of water .

Beat:Aberbaiden
Fishing:Trout (River)

First time at Aberbaiden for me. A somewhat difficult beat I felt. The top pool is good but the rest of the beat is relatively inaccessible. The other bank has better access. A warm, cloudy and later thundery day in May. You might expect some good hatches and sport. But it never properly switched on. There were trickle hatches of olives and from about 5pm some mayfly but there were no rises, or very few. Nymphs and spiders brought no response either. I am resisting the obvious conclusion it was all my own fault.

Limited access to water. Only at the point of parking. Massive tree across , and blocking access up the river upstream of the first access point
“Permissive” footpaths up stream, either side of the “no fishing fields not marked. Wouldn’t matter any way as the fields up stream are all fenced, so no river access. Couldn’t drive past top farm tower if access to the upper end was possible
