Incredibly mild temperatures, stayed dry for whole session too. River up slightly (60cms)but not racing through. Nice colour, just fining down. Snagged twice on two first casts and lost hook lengths, but then found clear patch. Very strong bites, not wraparounds, but not far off. 3 good Chub, all in the space of 90 minutes (either side of noon). Biggest was a good 6lb fish, with the other 2 around 5lb. Fin perfect. All fell to ledgered pellet, 3oz just about holding bottom. Large splashes on 3 occasions. May have been pike, but Salmon more likely. Startled otter on trudge back.
Great way to end the year. Thank you.

A tough day searching for grayling on this beautiful stretch of river. I fished upstream of the church as far as the Grandstand Pool. A brutal downstream wind made casting/control difficult with the French leader, but I stuck with the nymphs all day. As the light quickly faded, I'd managed to winkle out 4 out-of-season trout and 2 tiny grayling shots. I did spot an impressive decaying spawned-out double-figure cock salmon, which I suppose was good to see, but I ask again, where are the grayling? Quite depressing really, when I remember how good this river was 10-years ago. Unfortunately, I saw more Goosander than grayling.

Quite a hard day, river high and running through fast. Fished the top swim, didn't use a swim feeder as I have lost plenty of tackle in this swim before. Fished fairly close in with Luncheon meat. All four chub were around the three pound mark. The biggest being 3lb 14oz. The bank was muddy and slippery. I was hoping for a better return, with mild weather for the time of year. Saw a Raven and a pair of Gooseanders. Bit noisey at times, with a pheasant shoot and a tally ho lot on the oposite bank, blowing their horns, shouting and dogs barking.

Took advantage of the easing rain and warmer weather to head over to Llangollen. Great day out, even though a blank. Struggled to find the fish, perhaps a combination of trying new stretches of the river, as well as technique! Although the river level had dropped considerably, it was still pushing through at a pace and so I remain very wary of getting in too deep. Given the pace, hard to find the slightly slacker stretches where the fish might be sitting - and otherwise the weight of the nymph would need to be equivalent to a brick to get it down to the bottom :)
