6 Chub

River levels still dropping after a significant rise during the previous 24hrs. Fished upper section first and landed lots of chub between 1-3lb. Moved to the lower section and found a few barbel. And lots more chub.
Fabulous beat for wildlife and peace & quiet.

4 Barbel, 97 Chub

Good water, but no salmon seen or encountered. The trout were not afraid to take on the big fly...

River fining down nicely although still a strong flow out in the middle. Steady flow of chub, and rewarded by one barbel each.

2 Barbel, 12 Chub

No fish either caught or seen. Plenty of cormorants up there maybe that's why there are no fish ti be caught or seen.

Could have done without the frost, river was still pushing through and the banks very slippery, all in all a tough day for half a dozen Chub all taken on meat.

6 Chub

One small 6oz trout was caught, seven of the grayling were around the 6-10oz (20cm long) size, and two were around 1lb 6oz (30-33cm long). All fish were caught trotting red and white maggots on the stretch approx 500m upstream from the A44 road bridge, which apart from a short very shallow, 50m stretch just below the white iron bridge at the top end of the beat, was the only accessible section on this beat. We were really disappointed to find our access blocked or restricted by bankside trees and brambles and/or three foot high fence topped with barbed wire along almost the whole stretch - even upstream of the iron bridge. After a 90 minute drive from Worcester, I was faced with a walk of over half a mile over very rough ground, poorly maintained rotten styles (one actually broke when I tried to lift my leg over it), to find a spot to fish. Yes we did catch a few, but it was tough going (I am 65), and my knees and back are demonstrating in no uncertain terms 24 hours later!

Pretty difficult fishing with the river well up

1 Chub

River was up a bit but dropping throughout the day. Cold start with frost on the ground and lovely misty valley. Fishing was best in the morning with bites harder to come by in the pm. Fished 14 swims and caught from 9. Great stretch for exploring. Seemed like more swims had been opened up since last visit. Only gripe is the footbridge over the ditch. Reminded me of the crypton factor. Best barbel was 8lb 12oz and chub 4lb 8oz, mostly on straight lead and 16mm krill dumbells. Great autumn days fishing on the Wye.

River very high and coloured. Hopeless.
