It's been 15 years since I first went to Abercyrig, then Dinas & Abercyrig. I'll never forget that day; late September doing my last ditch trout fitshing for the year, when the river rose, and I saw my first salmon run. THere were fish swimming through and we had maybe 40 or 50 sightings. It was that day that lead me to become a salmon fisherman.
Here we are, years later, and today, I did not see a single salmon. The water was quite high but dropping and, in this respect, good for salmon, but nothing. I think it's wrong to even bother trying.

My first ever Barbel. 6.25lbs 7.25 lbs & 5.25lbs so two personal bests. Feeder with hair rigged banded Dumbell Hookers. The lower end of the beat looked so slippers that I fished in the woods where the swims appeared safer. Brilliant day and with thanks to the Wye and Usk Foundation.

Started at first light. The river had coloured up a bit and dropped slightly since midweek but still a nice pace for a fly in most pools. No takers today though.

Meat the preferred bait with just one chub taking a marine halibut pellet. River up a couple of inches on previous day and most baits in the occasional cloudy spells.
