Two Anglers. Lovely stretch. Overcast with a brief shower of rain. Early Barbel at 10lbs on feeder pellet then nothing. Moved to swim lower down. One Chub on pellet around 3lbs. Another Chub around 2lbs on maggots later. Not easy but we were pleased to get some hard fighting fish.

Arrived just at first light, weather was overcast with the occasional shower. Water level was 0.3m on the Ross gauge and water clarity was pretty clear. As there was another angler that I didn't know booked onto this stretch, decided to pick a swim and stick to it. By 9am I had caught 6 chub, of various sizes, including a couple of nice ones circa 5lb. Most of the day was slow, with another flurry of chub about 2.30pm.
At about 6pm, the barbel switched on, very pleased to have caught some this trip. Various sizes from 3 to 6lb. During the quieter spells of the day, I went for a wander on both banks and spent a while gazing off the bridge, wearing Polaroid glasses, I could see what may have been signs of weed regeneration, not massive, but what I thought was a really good sign, I guess the better flows this year and less hot spells have reduced the algal blooms a bit.
Overall a great day fishing, on a well maintained beat.

Arrived around 9 am weather dry and overcast although feeling muggy, not me the conditions!!!! Tried for an hour below the bridge off the boards no luck at all there. Moved up to the middle and top end of the beat where I managed to find some fish in the deeper pools. No special tactics just a good old fashioned PT hares ear gold head nymph sub surface.
6 browns circa 6>10 inches.
11 grayling average 8>9 inches. All returned safely.

Two rods fished the top section of the beat from about 10.30 until persistent rain stopped play just after 3pm. The river was in ideal condition, and quite chilly when deep wading. There was the odd rise, but nothing really significant. However, the grayling were in the mood, and a fly cast near a rising fish often brought a response. We managed a dozen grayling to about 16" and 2 brown trout of 10" and 12" between us. Mostly on nymphs fished NZ style, but a few on spiders and also dry flies. Good day.
