26’c and sunny made it tough going.
Me and my son loved it though, wading under the bridge catching many medium size chub and one 2lb barbel on the float, in a lovely location.
We Landed one 4 1/2lb chub on feeder tactics below the rapids after 5pm and lost 2 bigger fish, 1 to snags (which there are a lot of hidden boulders) and another to hook pull. :(

Had 2 smaller groups try to start fishing who weren’t booked on, but moved when asked politely.

Fished the bottom end of the beat with low water and clear skies. Float tactics using a mixture of meat, sweetcorn and bread.
A seemingly endless procession of chub, nearly all in the 3 to 4 pound range, mostly in fantastic condition. Over 100 fish on one rod. 3 barbel arrived in the hour before dusk.

Directions and parking were good. The closest spot to the parking is less than 5 minutes away, but it is a long haul down to the far end and the path was tricky in the dry so would be very difficult in the wet. The styles will need some maintenance soon; the second one in particular is very wobbly.

Many thanks to those that keep this spot available.

Second visit for the weekend as there is enough water to play with. Only 1 small trout on trad wet flies and a monster chub on tight line nymphing which took a size 14 Red tag. This was my third chub from the Wye but was my PB at 3lb+ and just about fitted into the net. Was in great condition and was returned safely. Day was made easier with pre-tied casts - Rig Winders purchased from Angling Active. Saved the day and a great way to store your casts when finished. Also had a surprise air show from a WW2 fighter flying over head at 2.30pm, all white with a red nose.

My first time on the mighty Wye this season. Not that there was much mighty about it today; in 20 years of fishing the Wye, I cannot remember seeing it so low but, in spite of the low level, it still maintained a reasonable flow. While the low river opened up runs that would normally be out of this timid wader's reach, Jeez, was the bottom slippery or what, and, like DC of West Hereford the other week, I struggled to stay upright (never mind studded soles, it was more like wearing roller skates)

On a whim, I decided to start on the top of the beat. Conscious of the low river and the bright sun, I concluded that it would be difficult today. Based on this, I spent longer than I normally would in each run. Probably a mistake, as all I caught were Trout in the 7-8 inch range; all on a Klinkhammer, mostly in shallow water - with a long time between fish. For the most part, these were not rising fish, and were caught by fishing the stream; with more missed than hooked. By the time I moved down river, I was under a bit of time pressure. A pity as, unlike upstream, there were fish rising, with the Grayling that I caught all good fish, in the 12-14 inch range. I suspect I would have caught a few more if I had stopped for another hour, but the prospect of my wife's Lamb Casserole in a Red Wine and Mediterranean Herb sauce, with Dauphinoise potatoes, out-weighted the desire to catch more fish

If memory serves, the first time I have ever caught more Trout than Grayling from the Wye

Excellent day catching barbel on the float in the only pool with some depth and flow we could find. All fish on the smaller side from sub 1lb to just under 5lb but perfect sized barbel for float tackle.
Really good day considering how low the water levels are, we feared the worst but the Wye, as ever, didn’t disappoint.

Beautiful location and lovely owner who gave us some tips. Water level low, will definitely be back when higher and fish the fast stretch more.
Chub caught in slower upstream section in the morning trotting meat.
Other is a minnow that got stuck in feeder, fish returned safely and I’m counting it ????
