Fishing on a really hot day always has it challenges, sometimes it can be productive but today proved to be a difficult one . The river was extremely low and I knew I had my work cut out . I expected a no show from the barbel but expected a lot more chub . This beat is a very prolific stretch, it will always produce the goods , but conditions weren’t great . I do regret booking on such a hot day , I should’ve known better. Still not a blank but a tough day ! A visit from our slippery friend Anguilla was welcome for a change

HL3 NEVER EVER DISSAPOINTS even in a heatwave and a very low river. OK only 1 barbel today but I only fished for them on a feeder for the 1st hour before the sun came out. The barbel must be outnumbered by 100 to 1 so out went the float and it was crazy fishing until I'd had enough by 11am. BUT quite a few chub had some sort of parasite / leeches which I removed and the river had a strange brown sediment which covered the stones in the margin and my landing net which I only used on the barbel. All the chub were unhooked in the water and swam off strongly after holding them in the current for a few seconds to recover. Interesting to hear from one canoeist that had hadn't seen any significant weed as he went by!! Cheers WUF
PS other Dace.

One of the hottest days of the year. Could only find the chub in the fast and oxygenated water. Four of the chub running to nearly 5lb. All but two were caught on the stick float with a small pellet.
The others were two dace and a foul hooked 1lb perch.
Hope to find the barbel at Strangford tomorrow

Hi there I caught no fish on Sunday the 10 th
It was very hot and only a handful of fishermen around the whole of the reservoir
But what didn’t help was the amount of people thinking it’s ok to throw stones in the water for their dogs and others swimming splashing and shouting
I did not stay very long

Great days fishing for both of us. Every fish was a chub and all caught on the float.

A stunning llyn but quite a steep ascent to get there. Conditions for us were pretty rubbish for fishing as it was the hottest day of the year so far, with bright sun and no wind. A few fish were rising but we caught ours on bead-headed hare's ear nymphs fished as deep as we could. All were small fish (under 15cm) but were spectacularly coloured.
