First time on this beat. It is very well maintained with plenty of swims which are well cut out and comfortable. It’s also an easy walk from the parking area. Unfortunately, we picked a bad day to be there. The river is painfully low at the moment (reading on the Ross gauge was around 0.17) and the little water which is in the river is crystal clear. It was possible to see the bottom of the river right the way across in all but a couple of swims. Added to this it was a day of bright sunshine and high temperatures. Even if they are not feeding I’d usually expect to spot the occasional Chub lurking but it was a challenge to spot very many fish today.
A long, hot and ultimately fruitless day of fishing was the result. We tried a lot of the swims and a range of tactics. Nothing at all though could induce a bite at all from a Chub or Barbel. The ‘others’ were three Eels.

A bit of a slow day - late arrival and bright sun probably didn’t help. Fish most active at dusk. Lost a second barbel when the line parted around a rock. All caught on the feeder.

Evening ticket - fished 6:15-9:15. Stunning looking beat as always - the end of a very hot day, still over 22deg on starting.
A few fish showing, so switched to dries quickly. Rose several good sized (2lb+) fish at lower end of beat, some turning away after nosing the fly, and a few splashy takes - all frustratingly missed. Finally had an 8" WBT to hand - probably the smallest fish seen all evening. Low, clear river - but still one of the most stunning stretches around.
A flock (8-10) of goosanders half way down was not encouraging.

No fish taken. River very low but successful fishing on fast shallow runs. Saw a few mink, one with a fish which was rather unusual. Also heard 2 Nightjars in the woodland when the light faded, very nice. A lovely weekend ????

Just a couple of hours on the Dore.
Lot of fish rising but reluctant to take my offerings.
Managed 3 small trout from the deeper sections on a ptn.
Also had 6 small grayling, 3 inches. Good news for next year. A lot of fry present too.
Desperately in need of a trim in a few places, another tree down since last I was here, right in one of the prime pools.
