After checking the river levels and the weather forecast for the week ahead I took a gamble and booked the beat last weekend. River was dropping slowly during the week and was just fishable on the day with the gauge at Titley Mill showing 0.4m and running fairly clear. One or two Mayfly hatching off during the morning with a few more in the afternoon. Due to the light rain the Mayfly seemed to be on the water for some time but with no activity from the trout. Tempted 3 fish to an Emerging Mayfly pattern but only managed to hook and land 1 WBT measuring about 8 inches. Saw 2 pairs of Kingfishers which appeared to be nesting in the river banks and plenty of Dippers. Once again lovely day on the Arrow.

River still a little high. Plenty of fly life of all sorts and mayflys rising during the afternoon. Fished mayfly pattern with 3 missed takes and hooked one but then lost it. One good circa 1lb WBT caught by the bridge on gold head hares ear nymph. Lovely afternoon on the river.

After losing a fish yesterday on the Rectory, it was nice to get my first GLLR springer in the net today on a first salmon fishing visit to Gromain.
Around 30’’ cock fish, colouring a little, hooked on a SHFC in the neck of the spring pool, but landed a fraught 20 later minutes later 75yards downstream after coaxing him out of the heavy water and boulders below.
The other was a shad which took a Kylie shrimp fly in the Ferry.

Good water level and lightly coloured. My first time here, Nice beat even if the cows are very friendly. There was a bull in the field where I passed the trout farm but he stayed well away while I put best foot forward. Three or four bites in about 6 hours. Lots of flies coming off but generally no sign of fish. Tried lots of things to get some action but no luck.

Dull and overcast with little activity all day. A couple of trout seen but couldn't temp them with nymphs. Water was clear and the river was in good condition. Light rain in the morning.

Please post this anonymously as usual. Tis was my first proper days fishing since autumn 2019.
Chris Ryan was my guest and he caught 3 fish. we saw lots of salmon showing.
I was fishing with a small Willie Gun tube fly.
Caught 4 salmon 12, 27, 8, 23 lb
The 27 lb fish was a cock fish measuring 105 cms in length.
The 23lb fish was a very deep hen fish with colossal strength, taking me round a rock, racing upstream 40 meters and jumping, then racing downstream , out of the Cafn pool, leaving me scrambling over rocks, simultaneously lifting my rod point over riverside bushes and finally persuading it to swim into a tiny piece of quiet water to release it. The most technical battle with a salmon in 57 years salmon fishing!
