Some upwing hatches, including large brook dun, but very little response from the fish. Caught one 9” wbt on a pheasant tail nymph, and two smaller fish on the dry, and hooked a few more.

Two of us fished this lovely fished filled little river, proper jungle warfare stuff, once you’re in you’re in...which was fine until we’d fished our way almost back to the bridge and car where a very deep pool with no way around stopped us. After back tracking we found a way out and walked around a field before finding the road back to the car. After a break we made our way up stream of the bridge and carried on catching, mostly on nymphs with one or two on dries where casting was possible in the undergrowth. Plenty of fly life including Mayflies. A very enjoyable days fishing.

Mick the Ghillie has done a great job putting in steps and clearing swims. River low and clear few canoeists about. One going upstream did not help. No luck today. Great information from Mick on where and how to fish. Thanks

First time on this lovely beat and very friendly ghillie.
Worked the beat through twice throughout the day with no fish seen. From 6pm until dusk there was quite a bit of movement in Vanstone but could not be tempted on the fly. Will be back after some much needed rain.

Struggled today with the fish being very spooky. Perhaps it was the very low, clear water conditions but I left the river with the feeling someone had gone through before me. Most of the fish that were rising melted away once my fly went over them, even on the few occasions when my presentation was good.
The lower sections of the beat are a little overgrown with a couple of the more fishy spots almost impossible to get at. The upper section through Lyonshall wood is fantastic though and much easier to put a cast out.
Nevertheless it was great to be out in the wonderful Arrow valley. There were plenty of large brook duns hatching plus a few early mayflies. And I did manage to bring three wild browns to hand with a few lost so all in all, another lovely day's fishing.
