First fish of the season! Est 18-20lb Hen, fairly fresh - took a Dee Monkey conehead on a 10ft 6ips tip. Decent fight and went back with vigour... as did I! (Water was 1'9" with v slight colour)

9 trout caught, the largest of which was around 13" long, all on a dry blue winged olive. Half a dozen or so missed. Lots of fly life. My usual haul is one or two fish for a day on the river, so either I am doing something right (at last) or I got lucky. Either way, nice day out and nice weather.

Lovely conditions. Water at 1'10 in the morning and dropping very slowly, perfect clarity.
Great to be out and spend time with two highly experienced anglers and thoroughly nice chaps, Joe and Gordon - I learned lots of tips. Also nice to meet Creighton and his friend later. We all fished well, but nothing caught that I know of. I popped up to another beat in the evening and had some luck there.

All but one fish came to a Coch-y-bonddu. A few fish rising here and there but very sporadic. Some hawthorn about around midday. My first time on this beautiful reservoir. Saw five other anglers despite (to the best of my knowledge) being the only person booked online!

River clear and showing no signs of recent rain. Fished klink and dink and a team of spiders with small beaded nymph. Although there were small fish rising I got no interest on the klink and dink but had a few bites on the spiders/nymph and finally managed one trout on the nymph.

I did not catch any fish. I tried dry fly and nymphs for about five hours. I did not see any fish or any rises, so it was rather frustrating. The water was quite clear which was a surprise after so much rain and I thought the Arrow was a beautiful river - just the size I like, so I will be back!

Area:Usk
Beat:Ashford House
Fishing:Trout (River)

First time I've fished the whole beat - a fantastic stretch of water with good access at this time of year.
The trout were everywhere today - in the flats, the riffles and the glides rising to steady hatches of large brook duns and olive uprights all day. We had loads of half pounders, a few around the pound mark and several over. The biggest was a shade over one and a half with bigger fish lost.....of course. The middle/upper Usk seems to have a very healthy stock of wild browns at the moment.
All came to dries, mostly parachute Adams, Ducks Dunn and other olive emerger patterns.
