I chose to leave my feeder rod at home in order to fish the bolo float for the first time. I was delighted to catch a 7lb barbel on the peg nearest the hut. I missed more fish than I hooked. This is a beautiful beat, but it's becoming quite overgrown. No one should come expecting a comfortable peg.

Water was up 6" and still had a little colour, so I was optimistic. Not many rising, so I used nymphs. All 11 fish were small - nothing over 1lb - and they seemed to prefer a pheasant tail nymph.

Three anglers for the day. Stretch has changes considerably since last visit, the beach opposite the wall is now substantially overgrown. Fishing was hard with only one Barbel while tackling up and a small chub late in the afternoon. Great venue though and access good although swims are limited

Another lovely day for fishing the Wye although this time with a chilly wind blowing up the river. All fish came to feeder tactics for both of us anglers and one of us had a tremendous day with 7 barbel, all between 6 and 8lbs. The beat was busy though with 4 other anglers which made finding a swim a challenge.

Fishing Passport Note : Wyastone Leys is a 4 rod beat as advertised. 2 other anglers were booked in. 2 more would presumably be poachers. If you suspect anyone is fishing witthout permission, please contact the Fishing Passport booking office.

Had the beat to myself today,no anglers on opposite bank, strange?were they all football fanatics or did they know something I didn’t? Had a nice chat with Andy the keeper, started fishing at 11.30 by 1pm nothing to show for my efforts, not even a bite! Time for a change of plan. A move quickly resulted in 2 barbel and chub, then went quiet again, by constantly moving between 4 swims managed to have a good day in the end. Barbel 3.5 to10lbs3oz including an 8 & a 9 at last some bigger fish. Chub 2 to 4lbs
