Tough day! River was low and clear. There was the odd fish rising (during the 7 hour session) but not interested in our offerings with hardly any fish disturbed as we waded virtually the whole beat. Apart from the fishing it was a good day, dry and bright day in spectacular countryside

Beautiful day to spend a couple of hours on bottom half this delightful stretch of wild stream. Hooked, but didn't land, a couple of free rising 'micro' grayling whose appetites were bigger than their mouths! Also moved a good size trout on the edge of a deep pool. Lots of fly life and large shoals of fry. Top half next week and I may just revisit that pool!

Best grayling caught to date but only fish of the day. Nothing rising, plenty of insect life all seemed right but couldnt find the fish.

River conditions were great but very little in the way of rises and quite challenging wading at the lower end of the beat. Sadly nothing caught.

Such a wonderful day with fish seen along the beat but sadly not on the end of my line. Special thanks to the owners who I had the pleasure of meeting and for the loan of a pair of waders (getting up at 3am has its dangers like forgetting essential equipment!). I’m also very grateful for the time given to show me the lies, invaluable information that will one day soon achieve the success I seek. So to this beautiful beat I know I’ll return soon and trusting I don’t forget anything else...my first salmon will be caught. Hopefully.

Sun and some overcast. Much warmer than previous day but chilly upstream breeze still evident. Much less fly life . A few olives, false March brown and masses of black gnat. Found small pockets of fish at the tail end of the salmon pools. Very selective feeders which refused most of my patterns but were not spooked. At the end of a frustrating day I managed to hook up to two very large fish taken on a deer hair emerger. One came unstuck and the other decided to head over the weir and I was broken. Little to show for a great deal of effort.

River could have done with at least another foot of water.... Lost a salmon at bottom end of Bridge Gutter very early in the morning. Never mind... a lovely beat.
