Fishing:Trout (River)

Monnow, challenging little river, described as the river with overgrown banks.
Yes, that the beauty of the wild rivers. Not like the Thames with trimmed grass and paved walkways, you really need to work it out how to gain the tail.
Long rod, keep at home, along with the reel, time for Tenkara, works really nice.
Right, water clear, 15c, south wind, dizzy morning , sunny afternoon.
Polish nymphing most effective metod, bit surprised by previous reports left by unlucky anglers.
Two brownies 10 and 22inch, couple of 8inch chubs, skimmed grayling and blacknosed dace.
2 Trout, 1 Grayling, 2 Chub, 1 Other

Beat:Hindwell - Coombe
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
This was my first visit to the Hindwell. It a very pleasant little stream. Weather warm and overcast .River level was pretty fair considering neighbouring beats were very low. Started at the lower end of the beat which was a mixture of depths and widths although reasonably accessible in most parts. A couple of trout came to a dry pheasant tail having seen them rising. After that there was a lack of surface activity so switched to #16 lightly weighted Killer bug. Took 6 more trout and then one final one to a dry pattern having seen it rise as well. After lunch progressed to the upper half of the beat. What a difference!
I walked up around half a mile and found very little water that was fishable due to excessive tree growth and overhanging vegetation. No further fish caught here as I only fished a couple of areas. I would suggest a visit by the WUF clearing team would remedy this as it effectively means that over half the fishing is inaccessible which is a great pity. Nevertheless it was a fun day on a new beat.
