11 Grayling

Finally managed to rebook a wash off from September. At 1.11m on the NRW Erwood Gauge, the river was a little high but very clear and very fishable.

Most of the grayling looked identical at about 10”, but a couple might have stretched to 12”. All caught on nymphs, either under a dry fly or straight lined. A few fish splashed at the dry fly, but nothing stuck. The grayling were hard to find, seldom catching two in the same place. All fish returned.

A group of about 10 canoes came through in the morning, and 3 paddle boards in the afternoon.

All fish caught on nymphs in top section of beat. Nothing of any size. All 8” to 10”. River very clear.

2 Trout, 4 Grayling

Water clear with good pace. Level steady. 1 barbel late morning - 9lb. The other at dusk 11lb 4 oz. 2 x chub of decent size too. All on the feeder with meat.

What looked to be ideal conditions turned out to be a hard days fishing, caught 1 barbel at 7lb 11 with what was going to be my last cast, had another few casts but no more bites

2 Trout, 2 Grayling, 1 Pike

Fish fell to meat on the lead and meat and bread on the float with Chub to 5lbs., two Barbel and several decent Chub lost to hook pulls. On a gorgeous autumnal day with what appeared to be near perfect conditions can't help feeling that we under achieved somewhat but still a very enjoyable day on a wonderful river.
