Nil return. The river was gin clear & not high enough for a fish. It was also a very sunny day with no wind in the morning which did not help. No fish seen at all.

The Usk was in excellent condition, running clear and at a nice level for the tricky wading. Quite overcast and mild. A few Sedges and Olives about but not a sign of a rise anywhere. Set up fishing the duo with a Copper Head Black Nymph on the point in the streamier runs and got into 8-10" fish fairly quickly. Sport dried up and I switched to french leader style in the deeper runs to no avail, losing my best flies on the bottom (hey ho). Altogether a lovely day, best fish 12" bar of Usk gold.

On the downside saw 3 Goosanders halfway up the beat, never a good sign.

Really Nice strech of the river, I think we must have caught it on a bad day, bright and sunny with the river a bit low and clear for the barbel, who knows. After a good start with an early 3lb chubb and an 8lb Barbel we struggled throughout the day, fished most of the pegs on the top half of the beat despite a canoe competition held on Carey Islands. Found a few fish in the evening to end up a total of with six quality fish between 7.5lb and 8.5lb. All fish fell to halibut pellet on the feeder with Hemp and Pellet for feed. Parking at the top of the beat is in a ploughed field! With a long walk down through the woods to the river, really tough on the way back up at the end of the day, travel as light as you can. Another Great day on the Wye, pristine fish and countryside, many thanks.
In my opinion this beat does not support four anglers per day, especially when L.Ballingham only allow 2 rods per day.

Beat:Craig Llyn

Fishing:Winter Grayling

No. of Anglers:1

Caught 3 brown trout up to 11 inches. 20 grayling including x2 16 inches and x1 17 inches. Caught mainly on dries, CDC Quill and PTN. A group of canoeists passed through who, although polite, seemed unaware of the water height restrictions in place.

I had the first coloured fish of the year from Wyebank, about 12lb on an allys shrimp size 10 double at the bottom end of the Wyebank Run, adjacent to the willows on the far bank at 1915 hrs. Saw a couple of fish rise in the Willow Run on Courtfield but couldn't tempt them.

We walked the stretch and were a little disappointed that the access to the river on the upstream part of the beat was so poor. We counted a maximum number of swims on the stretch at about 6 (including the croy at the very top).
One rod (Paul) fished above the stream that enters at the top of the first field, and i made a fishing spot on a bit of flatish bank halfway up the first field. Fishing was poor during daylight hours and we had no fish to show for our efforts. Paul moved 150 yards below me and once the light started to fade the fish really started to feed for both of us. Between about 5pm and 7-15pm we both caught some lovely conditioned barbel - smallest 6-0 biggest 8-12 total fish caught to 2 rods was 11 barbel, all caught on pellet. We left having enjoyed our day and both felt that the stretch looked like it might produce a big fish
