Lovely beat, the river was is great condition, it was a very bright day and I fished in the morning. The beat was easy to find, the map very good and the wading not too difficult. I did manage to cast flies under branches and into likely swims without too much difficulty but I couldn't spot any fish. Embarassingly I did not catch anything at all, although I rose two both on an Adams. I alternated between a dry fly and a beaded GRHE all morning using a 7ft cane rod I tried fishing the dry fly and then fished back in the riffles with a nymph. Maybe I was not stealthy enough to fool the local fish but I enjoyed the time on the river. I didn't see much fly action although I did see a couple of Mayfly, later on (I switched to a Grey Wulf to no avail). Of the fish I rose one was a small wbt( a tiddler)that was far too quick for me, the other a larger wbt probably abut 6 or 7 inches but after I missed him the first time (he rose to the fly but rejected it) he ignored my second efforts and then ran for cover. These were the only fish I saw all morning. I did not see a natural rise but I would love to have had the time to fish later in the day when I guess there was a little more action. I shall certainly come back and fish this wild stream again. Hopefully I will find more success. Dissapointingly I had to cut my day short and travel back home (to London) so I did not fish the Upper beat that I had also booked. Ah well there is always another day. Tight Lines.

Used a mix of wet and dry flies - spiders and nymphs were used, but greater success came using a tungsten hare's ear, catching two wonderful 2lb and 4lb brown trout. Dry fly used was the oliver emerger, and was successful in catching 2 very small trout.

Beat:Arrow Kington

Fishing:Trout (River)

Fairly low water, 5 salmon parr 3"-5"(nice to see), 8 wbt 7" - 9", lovely day except for a ducking! This despite using a staff, I would say a staff is a must on this beat - very rocky bottom. Klink and dink, one on the klink the rest on PTN and GRHE size 16.
All the fish came from the Kington half of the beat. The Mallhollam Bridge part is almost unfishable due to the Alders almost touching the water in places. Managed to get four casts in half a mile! Also saw my first brook lamprey in forty years, unfortunately it was dead!

10 lbs Salmon from the Vanstone on fly! There are still some ambitions left at 82 and this was one of them, to catch a salmon where Pashley fished. His picture came straight to me out of Tales of a Wye Fisherman which I read many years ago. Great to follow my two fish at Wyesham on Monday.

Absolutely beautiful beat, however river is so low I walked virtually the whole length on dry bedrock. Found a pool with enough water and sure enough caught two small trout. I did have a large salmon (3ft) attempt to take a fly as I was reeling in, which startled me so much I nearly fell in!!! great day out in this beautiful part of the countryside.

I caught 4 trout, fly fishing, using largely diawl bach and a white dry fly. Fish were returned except one, which swam under a rock and got tangled up. By the time I got it undone, it was barely breathing. I tried to do that thing where you revive it by pushing it back and forth through the water, but after a few minutes it didn't come back.
My first fish caught in 50 hours of fishing in wales (mostly in winter though), it was one of the most fun days I've ever fished! I was starting to think there weren't any fish...
Thank you Wye Usk foundation
