River with a slight tinge of colour maybe from the overnight storms in the area. 3 chub from one swim early in the session. A small barbel from one of the more open swims in the cow field. 2 fish lost from under the trees, one felt like a decent fish, then one landed around the 6lb. A 7lb fish followed from another of the swims under the trees. At least we a caught. All fish taken on quivertip.

4 chub (3 - 3.5lbs)+ 2 eels caught by one angler a couple of swims down from the pumping station on medium elipse pellets - (first time I have lip hooked two eels consecutively!). Angler 2 fished the fast water at the lower end of the fishery and did not get a touch. Water levels very low as expected and probably not conducive to barbel feeding during the day.
Two anglers fished the opposite bank to the fast water at the bottom end of the fishery until lunchtime. Presumably these anglers were sold day tickets or were guests of the landowner/farmer. This did limit swims we could fish on the day.

Fished from boat with 2 rods. Warm day. Very poor. 4 small perch only at top end. Water level way down and lot of exposed mud at bottom of jetty, plus bottles and other rubbish. Hazardous to get boat in and out as very slippy.
Welsh Water need to monitor this stuff better. Scrape the jetty. Wont fish again until water levels rise.

Another tough day, the river here is really low with very little flow, not helped by three abstraction pumps doing there best to empty the river. We only fished the morning and thought the storm in the night may have freshened things up a little, not to be. We struggled to get any interest in baits at all and the four chaps on the opposite bank had nothing either, and they were using maggots, I thought they weren't allowed until September 16th??? Although the fishing was tough, we all had a great time and thanks go to the Wye & Usk for opening up these fantastic places to fish.

WUF note - Maggots, pupae or non-aquatic larvae can only be used between 15th September and 14th March (inclusive). No fish roe or crayfish baits.

Caught chub to 1lb, dace and bleak steadily all afternoon on the waggler. Expected the barbel fishing to be hard and was proved right by a biteless couple of hours in the evening.

Hoped I would see some more water in the river after the lightning storms we had in Worcestershire the day before, but the level was still very low and the cloud cover quickly burnt off to produce another hot, bright day. Sporadic rises from fish through the beat, but tough to find a consistent riser during the day. Picked up a couple of little brownies on leaded nymphs in the deeper pools but struggled with the dry fly until dusk. Fish started rising properly as the light faded and had another 4 fish best about 1/2 pound on a small klinkhammer fished in a couple of the faster glides at the top of the beat.
Saw two of the fattest Kingfishers I have ever seen which are obviously feasting on the large numbers of Parr in the shallows. Unfortunately the beat was disturbed by illegal canoeists who despite my explaining the situation, did not leave, but were at least polite and apologetic.
