Beat:Ty Newydd

Fishing:Trout (River)

The river level was still quite high and slightly coloured due to rain the night before but was fining off during the day. Managed to catch 7 fish, all good sizes 1/2lb plus - with one over 1 lb.
Weather was good - sunny with some cloud cover and the air temperature was about 14 degrees C.

Sadly no fishing as the water was too fast, full and dirty...another time maybe !

Beat:Lyepole

Fishing:Trout (River)

Sadly I couldn't choose the day of my visit to the Lyepole beat as I had to fit it around work. The weather was beautiful but unfortunately the river was very high and coloured. Wading was unsafe and the fishing was impossible. Tried everything but a nil return. Still beats work though! A good hatch of olives late on but only I could see them!

Area:Lower Wye

Beat:Goodrich Court

Fishing:Salmon

No. of Anglers:2

No Salmon caught but three clearly seen close to both banks (one being less than 20 feet away and 4 feet from bank) on The Maddox and Corner Tree and another on The Electric Lines. A dry day in the middle of many wet ones with bright conditions and a level river (rising slowly in evening). One Sea Trout caught & returned (end of Maddox).
Left bank access was V difficult but otherwise a wonderful 12 hours thrashing the river to a foam :-)
Thanks to all at WUF.

WUF note: This was when the river was running around 4ft above summer level. At anything below 2ft on the Fownhope gauge a stone walkway is visible that provides easy access to the left bank of all the lower pools.

River running very high and strong but a great days fishing on this beat. 7 trout caught to about 11" all on a dry adams fished in the slower sections. Some great sport in the lower beat under the trees, very tricky wading though!! Plenty of fish rising, just hard getting in a position to cast to them. Quality beat.

The river looked a perfect height - to me at least - so persisted with continuous optimism. Having said that, no fish seen or caught.
