Beat:Glan-y-Cafn

Fishing:All Species (in season)

No. of Anglers:2

Fished Glan-y-Cafn today, plenty of trout about, brother had a dozen or so, mainly on goldhead grhe's fished on a Tenkara rod (1st time out). Didn't see (or contact) any salmon. Couldn't make most of the beat as the water was too high to wade (above chesties) and the tree canopy making casting even a 13 ft rod difficult.

Will be back when about 10" on the Glan Usk gauge.

Fishing:All Species (in season)

Caught one brown trout and lost another within a a minute or two. Both took a weighted heptagenid nymph. This was the only activity I saw all day. The water was still a bit coloured after recent heavy rain. There was a lot of woody debris both higher on the banks and in the stream as well as a lot of plastic detritus, mostly agricultural in origin - old feed/fertiliser bags etc. All too common on British rivers I am afraid. Farmers custodians of the countryside - I don't think so. Quite a lot of insect life -Hawthorn flies, black gnats, Iron Blues?
