One small fresh run grilse early afternoon on Devon blue and silver from Wyebank pool behind the crib. Fish seen there Monday as well as along bottom end Legg Meadow. I suspect a small run came up on the 4" lift of water we had late Sunday which dropped back Monday.

River low and clear, vegetation high and lush! Chest waders as useful for ploughing safely through the nettles as for wading...Plenty of fly life including mayfly but few trout rising. Perservered with dries and paras but could not tempt any to rise from the deep and almost static pools. Landed 6 to 9" and missed several from the runs at the top of the pools and fast water. Grey duster the most successful pattern.

Another beautiful stretch of river, with access very good, a drive around the field and right up to the waters edge. Pre baited several swims with pellet & hemp with the plan of coming back to them later, when we did nothing until mid afternoon, then 2 barbel and 9 chub. All on sweet corn, nothing on pellet. Thanks to W&UF for another wonderful opportunity to fish this fantastic river.

Results probably didn't reward the effort made. 450 mile round trip and a 20 hour day for 4 chub. But I will be back!
Do Not Underestimate the walk from the car park to the top end of the beat, it is a killer. Wanted to try the top end pools as I've fished Courtfield (opposite bank) before. Disappointed that two anglers from the next beat were already fishing in the top pools. They had walked down from the next beat but with nothing to indicate where one finishes and another starts what can you do?
Caught two chub in available pool, then worked my way back down to pumping station with no further action until last knockings when I caught two more. Good sized fish that were enthusiastic.
Beautiful location but probably due to early season swims had to be "manufactured." No sign of Mr Barbel.
