Manfully trying yet again to get a take of a passing Salmo but as usual not sight nor sound of such a Traveller! However the solitude was interrupted by aggressive pulls from Shad which put a smile on my face as they were very silver and ballsy !! 10 returned and 6 or 7 more prematurely released.

5 Trout from 9 to 14 inch, all in super condition and fighting fit condition, lovely ...
River was fairly quiet with just a few olives and mayfly popping off, turning over the stones revealed plenty of Nymphs of all descriptions and a fair shrimp population and some huge sedge cases too! Lovely bit of river with some fabulous dry fly runs and glides and yes access is a bit tricky as has been noted before but just have a wander round and you"ll find a way through OK, the 'vertical' bank sections are deep and slow anyway and not much fun to fish the fly.
A good bonus is that there's no barbed wire fencing, tightly strung waiting to put holes in your waders and ones other parts down there ...

River was low but four fish rising in different areas. Amazing caddis hatch and a couple of mays to. Incredible amount of insect life. Used a dry fly but missed a take. First wild stream session. Great experience but tough. Lovely river.

Booking this beat for a visiting trip from the midlands couldn't have been simpler. The beat access was challenging due to forestwork in progress. The river had lovely clear water, warm weather, not too sunny, a few mayflies hatching yet barely a fish to be seen other than the small plips of tiny salmon par at the margins. A few small 6-8" trout caught on klinkhammer and small nymph duo under the klink. Gold head nymphing brought a few hard takes but nothing connected.

Perfect conditions - quite warm, no wind, overcast. But very little surface activity and only a few mayfly. We persisted with the dry fly throughout, prospecting likely spots but only getting very occasional tentative rises. One fish of two pound plus lost and one slightly smaller caught.

One very nice trout caught right at the bottom of this very beautiful and very interesting beat. Surprisingly few rising fish on the flats (or elsewhere) possibly in part related to three youths swimming and one throwing stones into the river throughout the afternoon.

Fish rising in the morning to olives but activity declined during the main part of the day. Fish became much more active in the evening when the two best fish of 2 lb and 2.5 lb were taken. Flies were an emerger olive and a Dogsbody variant. Bright and sunny during the main part of the day. Olives and Mayflies main hatches. A challenging but ultimately very rewarding day on a beautiful stretch of river.
