Another blank day, no signs of fish until about 4 o'clock when I saw a smallish fish breaking the surface a few times, covered it 4 or 5 times but no luck.

Hatches of large Olives occurring as we arrived at the beat and continued until early afternoon. Fish caught in the slower deeper runs on dries and also towards the top of the beat in the faster water. Some large fish spotted in the lower sections but none caught. One very good trout hooked but sadly lost on nymphs in a faster run near the top of the beat.
A very enjoyable day with lots going on and fairly good weather conditions.
Access was difficult at the bottom half of the beat where the banks were steep. Leaving the water was a real challenge as ones foothold in the soft soil often gave way. It would be very helpful if access and egress points were created at some of the more popular runs, with some form of ladder or rope assistance.

First ever Wye salmon on the fly! Home tied at that, called "Harriets Best" thanks no 1 daughter. 14 lb, released strong, caught at tail of the rapids on beat 6. Had 2 other raging takes during the day but not stuck. 10 year break from salmon fishing with lots of memories of fishless hours, wiped clean, good day!

Cool, overcast start but lovely afternoon on this extremely attractive 'fishy' looking beat. Unfortunately, despite a reasonable hatch of upwings including Mayflies the fish didn't come out to play with less than a handful of fussy fish seen rising all day. We would like to think this was due to the river being above normal level and incomplete tree canopy cover rather than a lack of fish.

After a really slow start to the season the river Usk was alive today, I was lucky enough to be Guiding two very good anglers, one of whom is and an England international river team member. The morning was spent fishing nymphs in the streamy runs and pockets at the bottom of the beat. While the middle of the day was spent dry fly fishing in the flats both top and bottom of the beat. Both methods produce good fish but the best fish of the day came from a deep packet in the middle of the beat. This Fish can be seen on the new Wye and Usk Passport Facebook page. The fish were some what picky while rising to the dry and we could only tempt them on a large quill bodied olive. www.frankwilliamsflyfishing.co.uk.
