After losing a fish back in May I've not made it back to the bank with the river in good order, most of the good sport falling midweek which I could not make the most of. So it was great to be back on the rectory in good conditions (Many thanks again). It was snowing last time I fished here! I started early as i knew there was rain on the way which could spoil things for me. At about 1030 I made the most of this opportunity and had a 15lb fresh hen from the top of Rock Pool my first landed on the fly. Fished on untill the river started to come back up again and went home very wet and very happy. Thanks to WUF for making this possible.

Another lovely stretch of the Wye, hardly a soul seen all day and not too many canoes. 7 Barbel between 5lbs & 6lbs 8oz all caught on pellet/feeder tactics. The only downside was one of our party had their car broken in to in the fishery layby, future anglers bare this in mind!

Overnight rain meant that the river was slightly rising at around 5ft. Arrived a little later than yesterday, and with another angler fishing upstream of the hut, we decided to go back to yesterdays first port of call in the trees before the bridge. We started fishing around 10.30am, with baits back on the same spots as yesterday it wasnt long till we were into the first barbel. and they carried on coming all day! We started packing up at around 7.30pm, having caught 23 barbel with two lost to just under 8lbs. A fantastic days fishing. Thank you Wye and Usk! All fish caught on pellets, paste and boilie again.

Beat:Fenni Fach

Fishing:Salmon

River held at 1ft 5in throughout the day with the water carrying quite a bit of colour (2 to 3 foot visibility max). I only had time to fish the top half of the beat - 1 x 9-10lb coloured hen salmon caught and released from the tail of Long Gutter on a 1" tube fished on a sink tip. I had numerous other tweaks and line tightenings that were probably trout, based on the 10 or so half pounders brought to hand during the day.
The casting and wading were, as always at Fenni Fach, a challenge and I was lucky to come away with only a wet arm. This stunning stretch of river suits those who enjoy more technical salmon fishing, with some long casting mixed in with a flick of the fly here and there. A great day!
