15-20 trout of 8-10 inches and missed half as many again! One on GRHE nympph and the rest on a hare's ear emerger. Lovely weather conditions although river a little cloudy. Very little fly and few rises, so most fish tempted up from the bottom! Good fun but frustrating at times since the whole beat is still in dire need of a haircut.

An enjoyable day at Dan-y-Parc on Monday. A heavy grannom hatch in the morning left us scratching our heads as we failed to trouble the scorers, but in the afternoon the olives started and fish were still rising to them as we packed to leave for home at 6.30pm. In total 6 superbly conditioned trout fell to a jingler, with many more missed due to poorly timed strikes. All were over 1lb with the best more than 2lb. Great fishing on a fabulous beat.

Early this afternoon in the big pool at the top of the Glan-yr-Afon beat just below the Crawnon and fishing a #14 Olive Emerger on a 6X tippet, I landed and returned a 21" (nose to tail fork rounded down) brown trout. It took about 15 mins to land after taking several desperate long runs and then holding station in the relatively strong current before I managed to coax it into a quiet eddy.

Using Weight in pounds = 0.000427 X Length in inches3 from page 81 of 'The Trout' by Frost and Brown, I calculate a hefty 3.95 lbs!! The fish was in good condition so I assume this to be a realistic weight. This is only my second trout of the 2010 season. Later I hooked a greedy 6" dace on the same fly. It's all about luck!

Had a couple of phenomenal days on Wye over the weekend. It was so good on Saturday I had to go back on Sunday. The Granom hatches have been the best I've experienced in 10 years. They were starting by 10 and although they were not hatching there was fly around all day with rising fish still eager to take the fly till after 6 in the evening.

You probably wouldn't believe how many fish I caught, I lost count after running out of fingers and toes several times over on both days. I took fish on nymph and dries, the dries worked well in the afternoon I guess when the fish were taking the drowned out egg layers coming back.

Best fish.....about 4lb, a number of 40+cm trout (over a dozen!). Most memorable fish - hooked it in the Top Planks, spooled me out of fly line and 50yds of backing so followed it down the run, I managed about 200yds before having to swim the last 100yds and landed it in the Gravely Pool, witnessed by who ever was fishing the beat with me on Sunday. One hell of an experience!

Absolutely outstanding fishing, some of the best I've ever experienced, it really was that good!

Just one take all day on a March Brown. Estimate around 3lb or more, but it broke the line (near a barbless hook, so I hope now rid of the fly). Otherwise no sign of fish. Fly life also quite sparse - some grannom, but far fewer than the description in the latest Newsletter where we were.

Lots of Grannon. Had a dozen or so small trout and a good grayling all returned.
Struggled considering fly life about (probably lack of skill)

1 x 9 inch trout. I remember this beat from last year as having the odd very large trout in certain holes, and I thought I remembered which holes. The first one I came to had a fish rishing in the inlet; it took a Klinkhammer and I missed on the strike, pricking it slightly. The next one also had a fish rising which accepted the Klinkhammer; I struck and got the hook back with the gape opened. You don't get second chances!

Wonderful weather bright, sunny and cold but alas the fish were not as keen to come up and enjoy it. A few hatches during the day but no risers. Caught 1 lb graylng and 4 small browns 5". PTN GH hares ear nymph size 14 under a cadis indicator, 1 fish came to look at this. Great stretch with deep runs.
