Lots of fish rising - first time this season. Excellent beat and good fishing.

Only flies were stone fly and what I think were sedges may be 1/2 doz. a lovely strech of water I will be back. Thanks again WUF.

Our first visit to MHC and were impressed by its potential.

Kev had a kelt of about 7 to 8lbs on the fly at the junction of Vanstone and Vanstone Pool. An important fish for him since it is the first salmon he has landed on the fly. He also caught a chrome bright silver trout about 2lbs (Tail of Maddox) which I can only assume must have been a sewin. I faired less well with just a 7lbs pike for my efforts.

A notable feature was the prolific Grannom hatch which was ongoing all day. By lunchtime the ducks were satiated and chub were everywhere. (The big ones live in the neck of The Rope.) There were so many Grannom that the canoeists had to paddle with their mouths shut which made for a peaceful day. I almost felt sorry for them !

Cold day. 11 small fish largest 1/2 pound, mainly on klinkhammers. 1 fish just under a pound on a pheasant tail nymph. Caught one 4 ounce fish with a nymph in scissors and 5 feet of nylon. How this ever managed to break someone I have no idea, but it was his lucky day.

A few Olives were coming off the water form mid day onwards.
Not a lot else had two grayling 12" one 14" and one big brownie, all on the dry. Not easy fishing but well worth the effort.

No trout, but four grayling. 2 small ones (6 inch) and 2 big ones (16-17 inch). Not easy fishing. I didn't see a rise all day ... except for one of the large fish which took my dry fly with enthusiasm. I had the guiding services of Andrew Cartwright ... excellent, I learned a lot.

One minor niggle. I could have done without the EA survey team wading in the river I'd paid to fish. Apparently they were doing work for WUF.

(WUF note - the EA are carrying out a Pearl mussel survey on the Irfon as part of our ISAC project. We have asked them to inform us before working on a particular stretch so that we can make anglers aware. Our apologies to anyone whose fishing has been affected.)

Caught nothing, saw none... amazing insect hatch, hardly see across river at times. Water needed 4 inches off it.

Bright sunny day, easterly wind. Scenery beautiful. Amazing hatch of grannom at midday [think blizzard couldn't see to cast for 15 mins!]. Two smaller hatches at 2 and 3pm. Very few fish rishing. Had 3 pulls, then caught one brownie 1 1/2 lbs at 3pm, taken on a large beadhead olive nymph. Fish stuffed with grannom pupae. Great day...thanks to booking office for their help. Lovely to see Jean Williams at Sweets after 30 year interval!
