Beat:Upper/middle Usk private beat

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:1

Arrived at the river at around 11.30am to a trickle of LDOs but no fish rising. At around midday there was a decent hatch of LDOs and March Browns, which only lasted 15 minutes but brought fish to the surface with aggressive takes. 2 very good trout landed during that hatch to a dry March Brown pattern, 19.5 and 18.5 inches and both in very good condition for the time of year.
The rises stopped abruptly once the hatch had finished although I managed one more 12" trout about an hour later speculating with the same dry fly. Great to be back on the river and I couldn't want for a better start to the season. Hopefully hatches will start to build if the good weather holds.

Late start due to car problems and arrived on beautiful day full of optimism. Tried a number of swims but the barbel just did not oblige depsite river looking favourable. The character of this beat has changed considerably with the removal of a number of trees. At east a couple of chub turned up to the party!

Access has been improved ,but still a struggle when you can't leave anything at home.
Slow start but late afternoon really came alive ,dusk saw the barbel take an interest. Fabulous day ,first burn of the year, as in the sun and glare all day.

Gin clear river and very tough conditions with bright sun. The fish were not active, and the water was still very cold. Managed to scratch a couple out on nymphs. Winter floods have changed some of the beat.

Warm sunny day, with an occasional light breeze, river running clear. Beautiful day out on the river, lots of chub (I lost count) and some bonus barbel too.
