Turned up mid afternoon and fished the lower middle section, not much happening so I roved around a bit, finally found a peg where the Chub were having it including one around the five pound mark. No sign of any Barbel until about 7.30 then it was a fish a chuck until 9.30 when they seemed to switch off and it was time to leave.
The river was very low and clear with many fish rolling and flashing in the shallow sections but oblivious to any baits presented, this is a huge section of river which will take many visits to fully explore I feel and will fish better with a bit more water in. All fish caught were in perfect condition and the Barbel fought very hard indeed.

5 chub to 4lb and one barbel 6lb. Sure the site was much shorter than the 600yds stated and I struggled to climb the banks in the few swims available (very slippery after rain). But eventually sorted myself out and found a few fish.
WUF note: Both the website and the beat document state the beat is 220 yards of double bank fishing. Improvements to bank access will be made over the next couple of months.

Heavy rain night before, river real funny colour, after every cast tippet, line and fly covered in green slime, needless to say no takers. Pity as it looked nice stretch of river, just seemed very dead on this day, only a couple of fish seen moving all day.

Weather changeable with periods of sunshine followed by increasing rain later in the day. Spoke with Colin the day before fishing, who kindly put us on the fish. My friend Paul and I had a memorable day's fishing, landing 17 barbel to 8lb (Paul had 12) and 30+ chub to around 4lb. The fish came to pellet and luncheon meat. We will certainly be back.

6 Wild Brown Trout in fantastic condition in a couple of hours. First time on this beat and very impressed. Almost as good as the Dulas Brook, a little over grown in places my 6 foot rod was a bit long until I got down on my knees.
All fish on para Adams. Must try this one again on a day when then weather is kinder.

Beat:Fenni Fach

Fishing:Trout (River)

8 fish caught including 2 salmon parr. best fish a splendid 2-12 and 2 others at about 1 lb. All on nymph mainly red or black twin tailed copper John fished either Czech style or in tandem below a dry NZ style. All returned. River high and rising through the day to flood by 6pm. Fishing tailed off as river rose. Tricky to wade in high conditions but lovely beat. Saw fresh tracks of (almost certain) otter. Bigger and wider than the mink tracks I'd seen the day before higher up near Sennybridge.

Access to the river is easy, although it would be better if it was made clear that the correct route to the river, once through the main gate, is via the two gates on the left, rather than via the track through the field on the right.

The river was very low and my son and I had only one or two small chub. No sign of any barbel.

Beat:The Eyton Beat

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:2

Lovely beat, overall caught 23 fish between us with 8 wbt to 8" and 15 grayling mostly 6-8". Wicked downstream wind picked up for a while which stopped any fish rising. Surprised to find another angler fishing who advised he has permission from landowner.
WUF Note: The owner has confirmed that nobody except those purchasing WUF day tickets has permission to fish at Eyton. Please report any poaching activity to us as soon as you can.
