Weather hot, river low. Fished middle section river stuffed full of chub, lost count of how many caught. 10 barbel - good considering how bright it was. Various baits used - pellet, corn, luncheon meat, cheese. Had a super day, many thanks Wye & Usk.

p.s. someone left a big bag of rubbish by the car pull in where the stile is. TAKE YOUR RUBBISH HOME!!! Otherwise valuable fisheries like this will be lost.

As is normal for this beat, if Courtfield is booked then Don who owns Wyebank also lets you fish his beat so long as it is available. Fished Wyebank early morning and late evening. No salmon to report but good sport fishing the fast water under the far bank with a double hander catching quite a few Brownies (best approx 1lb, Chub and a couple of Shad (best approx 2lb). Almost got knocked over twice by canoes (girls who had no idea of how to steer) where I had to turn round and push the canoe out of the way. Fortunately I wasn't in too deep at the time.
Fished Courtfield in the afternoon but nothing doing. Heard quite a few loud splashes (between the house and Leg Meadow crib) which I suspect were salmon but in each case I was too late to see the actual fish.

Excuses: firstly, low clear river, blue skys and very hot. Not great conditions so we didn't arrive until 12pm. Then things got interesting to say the least!! A young lady was walking her dog as we drove to the bottom of the beat only to strip off before putting on a cossy and having a swim in the pool at the end. Thank you Wye & Usk - do we owe you any extra money for above entertainment??
p.s. fishing great considering conditions with plenty of chub plus 3 barbel as the sun dropped away. Great beat, will be back soon.

One grayling 6inch and a brown of about 8oz. A lovely stretch of water but the day I fished was extremely hot.

1st time on the Wye. Weather very hot and sunny and the river a little low. Hard fishing with a single chub being the only decent fish landed between 2 rods.

Steep walk to the fishery - some nice swims first part of the river, then very inaccessible except for one swim at the end. Managed four chub on pellets during a short evening session. Many thanks- lovely river

Water 5 inches above summer level and clear. Fished from top of beat through to woodstream for salmon on fly. Rose one fish at the rock but was unsuccessful.

Switched to dry fly and took 2 trout of 12 oz on tupps 14. Later on took 5 trout fishing sub surface with deer hair sedge 14m the best 1lb 2oz. All returned OK. Had to leave at 7pm, pity.

Needed to get out and fish, so tried Courtfield as Wyebank was unavailable. Had to abandon the fly rod due to a lack of flow, and tried a flying C. Salmon showing so was hopeful, but settled for a 2lb chub! Left once the canoes arrived at 9.

Fishing:Trout (River)

My father and I fished for approx 5 hours starting at 10.00am. The river is very low and the sunny day allowed us to see pretty much every stone along with small trout fleeing as we moved along the beat. Very few rising fish although there was fly life all day around the river. Nymph proved fruitless so we stayed with dry klinkhammer and shadow mayfly (there were still one or two about). One wild brown trout approximately 8 inches taken in a deeper glide and safely returned was the only fish of the day. Plenty of dippers for company. The river needs a fair drop of water.

Caught five barbel and one chub, all on halibut pellets. Found it tough going during the day when it was hot, bright and sunny. Clouded over in afternoon when the barbel showed up, all in very good condition!
