Beat:One Two Grayling rods at at Ceffnllysgwynne (Irfon

Cold wind blowing upstream and rain threatening but failing to appear! River looking good after some water last week but fishing quite hard going. A dozen fish between us - mostly grayling of about 1/2lb plus a couple of similar brownies. One grayling of 1 3/4lb. All taken on small nymphs fished upstream. Many thanks to WUF team who managed to direct us to the river!

Beat:Cammarch Hotel Irfon (R9)
Fishing:All Species (in season)
10 x grayling to 15 inches; 5 x out of season trout to 14 inches. I'm always impressed by the average size here - more than half the grayling were 14 inch fish. Lost one of those big Irfon trout after a couple of jumps - a fish which certainly impressed me. Traditional grayling wets and a few on dries.

Usually fishes well on low water, as today. 12 x grayling, a nice average size, the majority of them over 14 inches and two at 16 inches, on north country spiders. 9 x out of season trout, mostly small, except for an almost black cock fish of 13 inches.

Beat:Mortimers Cross (River Lugg)
Fishing:All Species (in season)
The first time I have fished Mortimers Cross and, with 1.7 miles of bank, plenty to go at. Some oh so enticing pools in the top two meadows - which I studiously ignored as I made my way down to the bottom of the beat on a lovely autumnal morning. Plenty of action as I moved back up river with around a dozen Grayling and 3 unseasonal Trout. Nothing of any great size with the best Grayling probably just about going 1lb. All on the same gold headed PTN.
Other than some small fish - and I mean small - which were taking drys, by the time I got back up to the top two meadows, as far as I could tell, the oh so enticing enticing pools were devoid of fish. Mind you, it was very bright by then with the bottom visible even in 6 feet of water - it might have been a different story if I had fished them in the morning (when there was a bit of cloud cover). A couple of nice Trout from the pool below the bridge before an early finish to beat the Worcester traffic.
