A very wet and cold day on the bank. River looked good, tinge of colour but felt a very cold temperature. Chub and Pike the main targets. No runs on the Pike gear so switched to Chub fishing on a mixture of Maggots, Bread and cheese. Hard going but managed 5 chub between us to 4lb 12oz and a bonus grayling. Will be back next season in higher temperatures. Looks like there will be a few new swims available next season which will be needed with the 5 tickets now available on this beat.

1 Grayling, 5 Chub

Lovely spot. Pike fishing limited to one swim really. Very muddy and slippery so take care. Managed to get one out in the morning before it got very cold!

1 oost. Quickly returned. No sign of grayling today. Very cold wet and grey. Beat is lovely. Some access issues mid beat due to flood damage. Could do with a sort out in the summer

Very attractive section of the Irfon.
Short session 11-1330.
Water conditions good, cold NE wind not so good.
No takes at any point across a variety of nymphs.

Easy walk from the road down and bank access along the stretch is relatively easy with well maintained gates and no barbed wire to cross!

Will try again in more favourable weather.

Three of us fished and caught 8 chub between us with the best about 4lb. Cold day and lots of mud, braved the walk up over the hill and caught six chub in the first field swims and another two at the top when we came back later in the day. Ben was on his first trip to the Wye and it was nice he caught his first ever chub after 7 hours fishing as he deserved one for the effort. A local angler we met who fishes there a lot recommended buying shoe crampons for the wye mud something I will be getting for next time

8 Chub
