A cool day for the time of year and the river a little murky after heavy rain 48 hours previous. Some mayfly present and fish rising, though not in abundance, from 1100. Seeing the mayfly I tied on a similar dry fly with a nymph dropper, a few trout rose to the dry but none took it, eventually caught a brown trout which took the nymph. It was returned. I fished until about 1700 and would have stayed had I been able to as the fishing was still on.

A very nice beat with easy access and no overhanging trees to catch flies. A nice day of wildlife watching as well with a Goshawk, Oyster catchers and a content looking otter. Easy booking, thank you.

River back to reasonable levels but still really muddy, no bites, no rises, no jumps, no luck today with exception of the weather.

Very disappointing, for the second time running, I caught nothing but perch which is very annoying considering I'm paying to catch rainbow trout. I asked 3 other men who where fishing and all said the same. Nothing but perch.

Didn’t fish. High banks and electric fences for the cattle just made it too difficult to access the water so I gave up and went to a different beat.

After a bad start at Upper Tower first thing in the morning I moved to this beat and the Usk gave me one of those magical red letter days, 30+ fish.

One large trout at 20” rose to a dry and 10mins later to hand. A bit cold and a bit blowy bit water level and colour very good. Nice new beat
