not a touch - and.....
Usk gauge showing 0.219m - I've read elsewhere that it's fishable under 0.3. I will definitely wait for it to drop more before another visit. At this level it's hard to fish the far bank unless you're a lot braver than me.
Weather was hot and sunny so not the best, visibility around 4ft.
Sporadic individual olives hatching (I was there from 11:30 to 4:30).
I saw 6 or 7 fish, all cruising up and down their patch of the right hand bank in less that 30cms depth - all very nervous.
I saw 5 or 6 rises.
But it is a lovely stretch, I walked from the top of the beat down to the shallows past the pipe.

Very tough fishing today. Not much hatching - the odd mayfly and caddis but just not enough to get the fish feeding, very few rises or other signs. Those we did see were mostly small fish rising to tiny flies - we only had about a dozen bites all day and most of those were on tiny patterns, often in slower water making presentation difficult, and difficult to hook - only one small trout caught. Had one other take during a brief mayfly hatch, was attached to a very good fish of 18" plus for nearly a minute, when suddenly the hook came adrift - not a good hook-up. Frustrating - one of those days! Still lovely to be out, this is a beautiful beat - thanks!

Sunny day with a light easterly wind, river at a nice level.
Lots of insect activity all day, but very few fish rising.
Spent too much of the day trying every dry in the box, before switching to the duo and catching a few.

Warmth at last ! And Penpont looking lovely in the sunshine. Plenty of surface activity when we arrived but it soon petered out despite the fact that there was a smorgasbord of flies hat hatching for the fish to dine on.
We had 4 to hand, several more avoided the hook . One of the 4 was lassoed rather than hooked … best was a lovely 18 inch fish.
Bird life was wonderful too … along with the usual river suspects we saw yellow hammer, tree creeper and nuthatch
