The river looked good today and found what looked like classic barbel swim… fished it hard for several hours and tried everything, pellet, boilies, meat and corn but could only find a few chub… Must be doing something wrong!

Beat:Usk Town Water
Fishing:Trout (River)

Pulled upto the river about 10:30 and took one look and had a feeling it was going to be a very challenging day!
Water was chocolate brown quite high and the current was very strong. I tried various areas along the upper section of the beat but could only go about 2-3m in from the bank as the current was so strong and I didn’t fancy being washed down to Newport!
Nothing rising at all and not a lot of insect life about just drips and drabs.
Eventually after about 6 hours or so I packed up in a huff and sulked all the way home.
Clearly because of all the rain the conditions really weren’t ideal so will have to come back another day!

An iffy weather day. Couple fish landed from the swim at the far end of the beat but the dead tree swim proved to be most productive.
