Lovely stretch of river, and plenty of varied water to fish. The Wye was quite low at 0.29m on the Ross gauge, but there was still enough flow in the pools to swing the fly. Weather was hot and bright but salmon were showing in The Vanstone and Stones pools, some of which were probably residents. I didn’t get any takes until after 5pm but then landed a coloured 28” cock salmon (estimated around 8lb), and hooked another fish that threw the hook with a head thrash. Both were on a small red Francis (size 12) in Vanstone.

2 anglers.
Steady day, hard to get the fish out onto areas they would normally be on this beat. Managed to tempt some eventually. Fantastic venue to be fishing as always.
After a week on the Wye we'd like to say thankyou to the landowners, fishery owners and the Wye and Usk Foundation for making it possible for us to fish this glorious river.

We only fished in one swim for a couple hours just up from the woods, we had a few knocks but no fish. It was a picturesque stretch that I would love to have another shot at

Two Grayling (both approx 10 inches) taken on a tungsten bead GRHE. I had a few other tugs, all near the bottom at the end of runs.
No serious rain for a long time so the river was low and clear.
I used a 7foot, 3# rod with a nymph and a spider.

Just one 10 inch WBT from the upper section. Gorgeous hot sunny day, maybe not the best for fishing!

I had 2 concerns about fishing this and the Llynfi Dulais beats: 1, the recent Llynfi pollution spill but the WUF Office confirmed that the incident had only affected the Pontithel beat, and 2, recent reports that the river was choked with trees and guarded by impenetrable barbed wire. I found fish, and found few more downed trees or little more barbed wire than is common on many of the Wild Stream beats I have fished. A good challenge.
