Beautiful river, tough fishing (perhaps as expected from the Irfon these days? Out of interest, is WUF still liming the river's headwaters, and if not, when did this project end? My own fishing diary says things on the Irfon started getting much more difficult from about 2007).

Anyhow, this visit produced 1x 8 inch trout, caught by swinging an emerger at range in an otherwise inaccessible bedrock area: intensive nymphing before and after in good-looking pools and runs showed up nothing at all. Still, I'll aim to be back!

Beat:Darlington Brown Trout AA North Bank - River Tees

Fishing:Trout (River)

Awful conditions: very strong downstream wind and very coloured water. Fished for 2 hours in the afternoon, swinging spiders. Caught 3 small brownies, missed a further 6 takes. Lovely stretch of river.

Lovely river! First visit to this beat. Dry. Clear water. A few fish rising and a few mayfly, but fish not interested. Tricky wading, but easier with wading stick. Tried a variety of flies and leaders without success.

All fish taken on emerger patterns. They seemed to be very fussy and not fully switched on to the hatches.

Well, what a beaster, like the Lympstone assault course, except worse !!! A real Borneo jungle down there guys .....shame really back in the day was a pretty good wild beat ..... its kind of heading in the Pinsley Brook direction now I feel !!! Bankside stock fencing everywhere ..... jeeeeeeeez some landowners must dream about barbed wire !!!! Lol !!
Fished between four and half seven .... tough going but putting it in perspective I was pleased with five .... very hard earned trout !!! Sizes between seven and nine inches I guess ..... all took my dry Mohican May .....
Must admit, I was a shade late for the main party, but still a few splashy rises to mayfly !!! Got three of the rises and two perspectivly cast to likely trouty areas !!
Wandering with the length of the Lugg, the wild streams has only two beats now !!!! Wowser.... there's fab water running through and out of Leominster and beyond .... let's get them on the wild streams WUF ...Middlemoor went, that was dam good and we're just left with Litton and the jungle down at Pilleth !!!! Few phone calls and I'm sure landowners would relish 12 quid a day from a wild stream fisher!! Tis a no brainer ....
Anyway, worked up a mega thirst for a cooooool bottle of Thatchers ..... very well earned ...ohhh highlight was seeing a good few roe deer, close up too.... very nice !! And a haunting snort thrown in as well, from one buck !! Five lugg brownies, hands all stung to bits..... lifes not tooooooooooooo bad hey!!! Lol !!!
