Great day on my favourite beat. Most fish taken on French leader fished early on then about 4 /5 taken on dries as small caddis hatched around lunch time. Fishing dried up about 4pm as temp started to drop. Great day on a great beat.

Started early, fly only. River in good condition. Little colour if any. Rose a fresh looking fish a couple of times to a small fly in front of the hut from the croys but it would not take. Fished the lower part of the beat but little moving/showing.
Not too many canoes, starting at 9ish, mostly polite and did not disturb me too much, who knows what the fish think...
Only problem was the amount of weed (ranunculus?) coming down, at some points in thick mats - was there a cut? It got worse as the river dropped and by 1pm it was really hard to fish.

Guided N and S and what a fantastic day they had. The fish fed at intervals during the day. Being Bank Holiday weekend meant the canoe traffic was busy. Several fell out of the canoes into our swim. At times it seemed more like a public swimming pool rather than a fast flowing river.
The fish came on the feed towards late afternoon and evening. The largest chub was one of 5lbs 12oz and best barbel was 9lbs 3oz. Several 8lbers were caught. All the larger fish were weighed and not guessed. They were smiling just a little! Thanks W&UF and Don.

River was running quite clear. Overcast day. 5 chub upto 5lbs. Plenty of roaming required. Lovely section of the river, will be coming back.
