No fish caught in the morning, raining continuously. Much better afternoon between 2 and 6pm with 10 fish caught to 12 inches. All New Zealand style in the top half of the beat. First time on this beat and very impressed.

13 Chub on bread and pellet. Took fish from beats 2, 3 and 4. Tried for barbel but no joy.

Six Barbel to just over eight pounds between us but the going was hard, the fish just not settling to feed. Three of these came first cast in a new swim, then nothing! Maybe they have not finished spawing yet, it's a very late year. Plenty of chubb though, one rod having one of six pounds, which is a big fish this time of year. This beat is a bit of a walk,(offset by the beautiful meadows with spotted orchids) but there is some lovely water at the top end, Swan pool looks great and this is where most of the fish came from. This beat has some real promise for the future.

6 Barbel, 15 Chub

WOW June 16 again and what an afternoons fishing. After a slow start [no indications for the first 45 mins] a change of tactics was needed. Swapping to a blockend feeder loaded with hemp and a small 6mm pellet on the hair had the desiered effect kickstarting an instant response. Chub after chub came to the net so a change back to pellet/groundbait feeder and I had a barbel first cast. To be honest I lost count of how many after 18 barbel they were even taking on the drop. A lovely afternoon with activity at about 3pm. One rising fish refused a gold-head, a pheasant's tail and a klinkhammer but took a dry olive on the first cast.

A remote lake set in open moorland - take a good pair of hiking boots, you will need them. In addition to 3 chub, we had 3 carp between us in blustery conditions.

Overcast and showers with no bites and no fish on this trip for both anglers. Until next time!

2 Barbel, 1 Chub

A lovely beat, this one. One of the best three I imagine. A poor day though. It rained solidly and the water was very high and coloured. Not safe to venture in, in most parts! No sign of salmon, but trout started rising mid afternoon. Some mayfly in still in evidence.

Wet and windy conditions. Water cold. Little insect activity on the surface but a good population of heptagenid's, hydropysches and baetis nymphs in the river. One 8 inch WBT caught by 6pm. 8 more caught on Yellow May emerger pattern following a small hatch of Yellow May's around 7pm. Largest 10 inch ranging down to 6 inches.
