Trout: 1 x 13", 2 x 5". Grayling: 2 x 9". All on nymphs.

Woke up at 4.30am thinking about the days fishing ahead and couldn't get back to sleep. Picked up my fishing buddy at 6am and managed to get fishing by 7am. We wanted to get to the pub for some lunch so started off at a reasonable pace (especially when the bull in the first field started looking at me with evil eyes). After 20 mins of fishing I wanted to look at how my nymph was looking in the water and was surprised to see a beautiful brown trout totter up to the fly and swallow it up right in front of me. That was the first of seven for me and my fishing buddy caught seven too all of which between 6" an 14". Many more managed to wriggle off the barbless hooks. In the morning we fished mostly mayfly nymph and moved to dry mayfly when the hatch started (about 2pm).
Lovely river with loads of trout and a great pub at the end. You can sit outside the pub on a bench with a pint and watch trout feeding in the clear water. Fantastic.

12lb sea liced fish this evening in the rain to a yellow and green devon minnow. Saw 4 other fish and one head an tailed in front of me on the Wood Crib, presumably running.

I arrived late in the afternoon. Some mayfly coming off but fish were not taking them. There were rises to olives and I thought I saw some sedge. I lost 2 fish but brought none too hand.

1 brown trout caught and returned 3/4 pounds in weight
olive nymph size 14.

4 Trout caught on a variety of flies including Mayfly. Largest fish at just under a pound other three extremely small. Only area where fish were evident was from bridge to 50 metres maximum downstream. Other parts of river were unproductive.

None caught

Great day caught 8 fish between 1/2lb and lb

Lots of fly hatching mostly olives (I think), but not many fish rising (lots of oncers). Caught the fish on nymphs (pheasant tail, GRHE) and dries (red spinner pattern)

A late night at the Clytha cider festival meant a later than anticipated start. Arrived about 8:30 fish sipping some very small flies from the surface. Unfortunately this kind of fishing needs a level of dexterity and skill that I have yet to master, so after a few hamfisted efforts on my part they soon lost their appetite. Nymphing under an elk hair caddis produced no takes to either.
Temperature dropped around lunch time accompanied by a stiff breeze. Had a siesta. Thought I'd give down stream spider fishing a go, great fun lots of tugs, 5 wbt around 10 oz to a pound landed and released.
Returned to the cider festival !

Sporadic hatches of olives late morning but nothing rising, tried to tempt them up with my own but no interest shown. After lunch the mayfly started to show which at times was quite intense, having to swat them away incase of swallowing them myself! A few splashes started to appear and I targeted them with a J Tyzack Mayfly dun, I must admit I'm not used to using such large patterns so my presentation left alot to be desired! Still, managed to bring a 14 incher to hand and safely released. I only got as far as the pool where the Triffrwd brook joins because I wasn't sure how to access the upper part without going through either farmyard? I called it a day and walked back along the field, this brought me in line with the tree tops where there were clouds of May spinners, what a sight ! Tempted to go back down but needed to check in to the excellent b&b "The Old Mill" in Felin Fach. On the walk back I had to advise a family equiped with rods and floats on the far bank of the regulations, they appeared to leave. Bye the way, thats a fair old climb back up the hill, I stopped half way up and pretended to admire the view!
